Attributed to John Donaldson (1737-1801) Miniature portrait of a gentleman, head and shoulders, with powdered curling hair tied with a ribbon wearing a dark coat and white silk tie and shirt sky background; together with a companion miniature of a lady, two, ovals, each 5.2cm, with hair plait backs. India Islamic – Sikh Hari Singh Nalwa Khan 19th Century painting. A large miniature painting on ivory of the son of Dost Mohammad Akbar Khan the son of Dost Mohammad – who murdered the great Sikh genereal Hari Singh Nalwa c1830-1850. Old English inscription verso – reads “Akbar Khan the son of Dost Mohammad. Amir Akbar famously known as Wazir Akbar Khan was an Afghan Prince a general a tribal leader and Emir. In 1837 in the battle of Jamrud he killed Sikh general Hari Singh Nalwa in a planned tyrantical way by conspiring whilst trying to get back the city of Peshawar for the Afghans from the Sikh army but Akbar Khan failed to do so. A historical portrait of Sikh and Islamic interest. Watercolour 9.5cm x 7.5cm framed. Provenance – private English collection.
J.B., 1795 An oval miniature portrait of a gentleman wearing a blue jacket and lace cravat with grey powdered hair, signed with a monogram and dated 1795. Within a gilt metal frame and a band of interlaced art platted hair lock and other gilt metal frame, the reverse with the monogram “M” on locks of hair. 1.5” (4cm). (1)
