A Regency mahogany tripod table, with moulded edge and snap action to the circular top supported by a turned and carved column with three downswept legs terminating in brass castors. Diameter 66.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The table has come in for sale from a local antique shop due to the retirement of the proprietor. The table is structurally sound . The top is in good order with only minor edge nibbles and small scratches. The top has been re-polished in recent years. There is no warping. The block and locking mechanism are present. The turned column is in very good order as are the legs which do no appear to have any breaks or repairs. The castors would appear to be original. In our opinion the table top and base do match.
A Georgian brass 3" telescope, with tripod stand and in mahogany case, sold by E&W Smith & Co., Liverpool, the body of the telescope is also stamped Gilbert & Sons, London. Length of main telescope barrel 117.5 cm, case length 122.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The telescope is actually engraved E & W not EAW as in the description. The body of the telescope is also stamped Gilbert & Sons, London. On the lens at the end of the telescope there is an interior blister/chip to the glass (located at 4 o'clock if on a clock face). However, this must be on the side of the glass on the inside as it does not feel rough on the exterior. The main body has small knocks and dents but nothing too detrimental. The metalwork has been lacquered at some point which is now rubbed.
