An 18th century Padouk wood tripod table, on a birdcage support (a.f.), 86 cm diameter Condition report Report by GH Initial impressions are that this is in quite poor condition. The top has a long split through the centre and two smaller splits which run off this central one. There is a lot of evidence of water damage in place, loss of polish, chips, old scratches and gouges. Underneath the tabletop, which has separated from the base, we can also see other evidence of splits and damage to the wood. The column and bird cage mechanism we can see the reason why the top has become separated from the bottom is due to one of the dowls which attach the birdcage on to the underside of the surface has broken off and there is evidence of possible woodwork damage underneath the break. The birdcage mechanism turns freely and the turned small columns are in reasonably good condition with some denting. The wooden plate below the four columns is badly split along one side off centre and split in two places where one of the small columns attaches to the surface below. The main column has loss to the varnish and general wear and tear. There is also evidence of water and sun damage. Similarly the tripod legs are chipped, scratched, gouged, have evidence of water and sun damage and loss to the varnish. There is also evidence of small splits in places and one of the tripod legs has been broken off and reglued at the ankle at some point. The detailing below the tripod legs is present despite being chipped and slightly damaged in some places. Overall the condition is poor byt presents as an honest piece of well used furniture with nothing missing.
