Roman Bronze Oil Lamp with Bird Lid and Tripod Stand 3rd century AD. A mixed group comprising: a hollow-cast lamp with bulbous body, basal ring, raised lip to the discus, broad nozzle with volute detail, hook and ring to the rear; cast domed lid with a bird modelled in the round; stand comprising a discoid plate, helical ribbed stem, base with three triangular knopped plates and three lion's paw legs. 941 grams, 32.5cm (12 3/4"). Ex Harvey collection; acquired by the owner's father during the 2nd World War in Palestine. [3] Fine condition.
