A Pair of Rosewood Hanging Shelves England circa 1810, each tier is inset with brass stringing and joined by lavish brass mounts, the top tier having an unusual gallery of acorns, thistles, lilies, anthemia, possibly emblematic of the British Isles, the sides have X frame supports with foliate patera and classical masks, 46cm wide, 72cm high, 97cm deep Two similar pairs have been sold at Christies: The first on 6th April 1995: "Fine English Furniture", Sale 5370, Lot 155: "A matched pair of William IV Mahogany Three-Tier Hanging-Shelves attributed to Gillows of Lancaster, each with three-quarter galleried rectangular top above two further tiers, the ring-turned baluster supports centred by ring-turned X-shaped struts, one with pencil inscription to the reverse: "east wall near piano" and with further inscription "near the fireplace", the other with pencil inscription "east wall" and "east wall near oak door", variations. Provenance: Supplied to the 2nd Earl Manvers, Thoresby Hall, Nottinghamshire. Thence by descent at Thoresby until sold, Sotheby's house sale, 31 May - 2 June 1989, lot 307. There are several references to Lord Manvers in the Gillow archive for the period 1800-1840 but he seems also to have bought furniture from their London retailer. This prevents exact identification of purchases because objects sold in London appear in the Gillow archive by the name of the retailer alone. The Manvers archive itself suggests large scale buying, totalling as much as £3,000. As many as forty pieces by Gillow were included in the Thoresby sale." The second on 21st May 2009 "A West Country Tradition: Avon Antiques". Sale 5969, lot 236 "A Set of Regency Ormolu-Mounted Rosewood Three-Tier Hanging Shelves, In the Manner of John Mclean, Early 19th Century The upper tier with scrolled brackets and urn finials, above x-frame supports to the lower tiers, each shelf with pierced front gallery, on ball feet. These china-railed shelves have golden palm-wrapped brass pillars tied by pateraed braces in the Pompeian tripod-altar fashion that was popularised by Thomas Hope in his guide " Household Furniture and Interior Decoration", 1807.

A Pair of Gilt Bronze Atheniennes Sweden circa 1820, the bronze patinated tô le covers are enriched with neo-classical gilt bronze mouldings and surmounted by overscale flame finials, the bodies are mounted with a pierced gilt bronze scroll terminating in foliate motifs, the base of the bowl has a pineapple finial mounted upon rows of alternate bright burnished and matt reeding, they stand on a tripod of finely wrought legs with boldly modelled rams' head capitals and terminating in double hoof feet, the whole stands on a concave sided tripod plinth terminating in flattened bun feet, 28 wide, 70cm high

A Pair of Sinumbra Lamps France circa 1820, the fluted columns standing on a tripod of claw feet, the lamp mechanism incorporating glass chimneys within partially frosted and wheel cut glass shades, 76cm high Sinumbra lamps, literally lamps giving light without shadow, became an important technological innovation in lighting during the period of the Classical Revival. With its light source set at the centre of the circular tank, the illumination that fell on the table surface was without shadow. Many forms of table lamps and hanging lamps were produced, and the light was modulated by the use of half-dome and pyriform shades that were variously clear and frosted and wheel cut with a wide variety of designs.

A Victorian Marquetry Centre Table England circa 1840, attributed to Edward Holmes Baldock, the top is inlaid with concentric circles of elaborate scrolling foliage with, at the centre, a floral bouquet surrounded by butterflies, the base fashioned as a tripod , 74cm high Edward Holmes Baldock was a furniture dealer and restorer known to operate from premises in Hanway Street, London from 1805. His business and specialisation steadily expanded and in 1821 he was described in the Post Office Directories as an antique furniture and ornamental china dealer , this entry was re-defined in 1826 to buying, selling, exchanging and valuing China, Cabinets, Screens, Bronzes etc . In addition to restoring existing furniture, he also produced designs for new pieces and had them made to his specifications. One of his commissions was to produce designs for a suite of bedroom furniture in 1841 for the Duke of Buccleuch. A design for a table in the Buccleuch papers is annotated, No. 3 Amboyna wood ground with coloured flowers which is almost certainly the preliminary sketch for a table which was made later. He is known for a number of well-constructed, and in certain cases, finely inlaid pieces of furniture marked with his initials, EHB . Some of these pieces were pastiches of 18th century French furniture and others are executed in contemporary English style. Baldock s bills survive in many important archives including the Windsor Royal Archives, George IV s papers 1827-28, the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensbury s private archives and the Duke of Northumberland s private archives amongst many others.

CHINESE MING STYLE CENSER of small circular bombe form, in red and blue and on tripod feet, the exteriors decorated with three boys dancing in a garden with a bridge and fence, the boys' tunics in underglaze copper red and ther rest in underglaze blue, all freely drawn, the outer lip with three-leaf motif within singkle and double rings and the inner lip a loose key-fret pattern within single rings, the interior largely unglazed, as is part of the base, which is encircled with a double blue ring, the heap and piled effect is clear in several places
