Jar in four lobed spherical form body with handles and tripod footed, painted and gilt high-lighted with group of ladies and scholars on each side. 19th/20th century, 32cm high and 8cm high, punched on the bottom of the vase, otherwise in good condition.

A set of eight Victorian gilt metal comport stands by Cartwright & Woodward, of tripod form, with beaded scrolling stems decorated with masks and roundels, P.O.D.R. mark for 1868 (no receivers), height 9.25in.Originally formed by George Cartwright and Joseph Hirons in 1850 in Birmingham. Horace Woodward joined the partnership in 1853, and the firm became known as a leading Electroplate and Silversmithing Company operating from premises at 138 Great Charles Street Birmingham with saleroom at 41 Hatton Garden, London. In 1859, Joseph Hirons left the partnership and the firm became known as Cartwright & Woodward. The firm participated in The International Exhibitions of London in 1851 and 1862 as well as Paris in 1867.The lot offered is stamped with the Diamond design mark and was registered on 19th September 1868 in Birmingham.
