AN UNUSUAL CHINESE / JAPANESE FAHUA DECORATED BISCUIT TRIPOD CENSER, 19TH CENTURY OR EARLIER. A turquoise ground compressed globular body on three masked feet with elaborate purple and yellow glazed bearded chilong handles. The domed cover with three smaller applied bearded chilong and purple glazed lingzhi finial. The interior of the censer and cover unglazed revealing the biscuit body. On a carved wooden base. 21cm tall on stand.Losses to two chilong legs on cover. The cover with slight chip to the edge with a further shallow chip to the cover underside rim. The censer body with one slight glaze chip and one more similar to side of one foot. No signs of repairs.

Some 'remedial' work and 'restoration' again this appears to be part of the manufacturing process to simulate great age. Some metal mounts and inserts. Bronze censer has some pitting to the feet and general rubbing to the detailing. Soapstone carving generallly ok. Crocodile horn carvings also generally ok.
