SOOZY ROBERTS LIPS Photographic print Dimensions (hxlxd) 594 x 420 mm (Work) / 714 x 540 mm (Framed) Signed by hand by the artist Soozy Roberts is a multi-disciplinary artist who works with photography, sculpture, installation, video and performance. She explores the body, objects and environment as an accumulative site for work, in a surreal and darkly humorous nature. Roberts' work draws inspiration from the over-manipulated, mass-produced imagery that we are exposed to on a daily basis.  Intrigued by how we wade through this 'live' and 'recorded' visual matter, her work highlights the idiosyncrasies of modern life and our relationship to the material and technological world.  Intrigued by social media and the excessive materiality that bombards us, Roberts questions how this all-consuming, visual debris connects to our sense of self and identity. Roberts' work uses common motifs and objects to explore the self, unspoken anxieties and our relationship with the public world.  She questions the political through the domestic, addressing poignant issues around the body, in a world obsessed with beauty and glamour.  Roberts' work is flavoured by memories relating to family, femininity, Welshness and domesticity. Soozy has shown work at SITE Festival (Stroud), Chapter Arts Centre (Cardiff), Studio 1:1 (London), Glynn Vivian (Swansea) Arnolfini (Bristol), Points d’Impact Festival (Geneva), National Review of Live Art (Glasgow), and was winner of the Sir Leslie Joseph Young Artist Award 2008 (Swansea).

WYNFORD DEWHURST (1864-1941) FRENCH LANDSCAPE BY THE SEINE Signed and dated 1895, oil on canvas board 55.5 x 75.5cm. Provenance: Purchased by the vendor's grandfather at auction in Bradford, 1970's. Exhibited: Manchester Art Gallery, Wynford Dewhurst - Manchester's Monet, December 2016-April 2017 Wynford Dewhurst was colourful and controversial character on the Anglo-French art scene at the turn of the twentieth century. Born in Manchester in 1864, he embarked initially on a legal training, but, at the age of 27, he went to Paris to study art and was immediately attracted to Impressionism. In 1904 he published a book, dedicated to Claude Monet, Impressionist Painting: its Genesis and Development, which was the first important study of the French Impressionists to be published in English. Dewhurst's thesis was that the English landscape tradition, especially the work of Constable and Turner, was at the root of modern French painting and he wrote that, ".….It cannot be too clearly understood that the Impressionistic idea is of English birth"
