A CASED 18-BORE DOUBLE-BARRELLED PERCUSSION SPORTING GUN by Joseph Manton, London, serial no. 5852, circa 1813, converted to percussion by the maker, with 30 1/2in. rebrowned twist barrels, patent breeches each with gold-lined mark 'Joseph Manton Patent', engraved grooved and signed locks, figured walnut half-stock with chequered grip (small repair to fore-end), engraved iron mounts, silver escutcheon and barrel bolt escutcheons, the former engraved with initials, and later brass-mounted ramrod (some wear throughout), London proof marks, in fitted brass cornered oak and leather case lined in purple velvet, the lid with circular brass escutcheon (handle and straps missing). PURDEY LIGHT EXPRESS) SELF-OPENING SIDELOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 24330, 25 1/2in. cordite Whitworth-steel chopperlump barrels, matt sight rib with white metal-inlaid leaf sights for 100, 200 and 300 yards and bead foresight with flip-up moon-sight, rib engraved 'J. PURDEY & SONS, AUDLEY HOUSE, SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL.', treble-grip action with side-clips, removeable striker discs, cocking-indicators, bolted automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' and 'BOLTED' details, best bouquet and scroll engraving, retaining some original colour-hardening and finish, 14in. well-figured pistolgrip stock with cheek-piece, sling swivels, engraved and colour-hardened pistolgrip-cap and 1 3/8in. leather covered recoil pad, fore-end inset with blank gold diamond-shaped escutcheon, weight 8lb. 2oz., in its brass-cornered oak and leather case. The makers have kindly confirmed that this rifle was completed in 1934.

AN UNUSUAL 16-BORE FORWARD-FACING ROTARY-UNDERLEVER SLIDE-AND-TILT NEEDLE-FIRE SPORTING GUN BY C. RACHE (IN BRESLAU), serial no. 651, 28in. twist barrels, rib gold-inlaid 'C.7 C. RACHE IN BRESLAU', with ramrod (replacement) and key barrel release catch at the fore-end tip, horn ball-ended forward facing rotary-underlever operating an off-set cam barrel locking and slide-and-tilt mechanism (similar to Dreyse system), action face with protruding bosses, floating island locks with scrolled-block hammers, hammers with articulated needles attached(broken at tips), rear trigger block, trigger-guard with horn scroll pistolgrip, relief engraving of acanthus scrollwork, surrounding scenes of fox and hare in scrubland, the top-strap with a grouse and chequerboard engraving, the trigger-guard with a pointer at rest, 14in. figured stock with cheek-piece, sling-swivels and engraved steel butt-plate with top-strap, weight 6lb. 6oz.

A GERMAN-MADE 24-BORE PUSH-FORWARD-UNDERLEVER BOXLOCK NON-EJECTOR, serial no. 1102, 27 5/8in. barrels, push-forward underlever, gold cocking-indicators, partially engraved with scrolls, retaining slight traces of original colour-hardening, 14in. pistolgrip stock (pinned at head) with cheek-piece and horn pistolgrip-cap and butt-plate, fore-end with some damage, weight lb. oz. The gun was completed in October 1930. Please note VAT at 17.5% plus Duty at 3.2% is applicable to this Lot.

Footnote: The arms are that of Lord Scarsdale of Kedleston Hall.
