Two 1930s Llandovery velvet Rugby caps. Manufactured by Christy's of London, retailed by W Jones of Llandovery, one cap with gold thread and tassle embroidered with a dragon, the lettering 1933-1934, the other is plain with a red tassle,The gold cap has the initials I?RW written in pen on the inside label, Llandovery Rugby Club was formed at some point in the 1870s but little was reported from the 1930s apart from a fixture card for the 1933-1934 season which reads played 30, won 11, drawn 3, lost 16, 211 points for, 165 points against, it should also be noted that due to the club not having Welsh Rugby Union affiliation it was difficult to organise regular games and for that reason the club ceased in 1935.
A large collection of Irish Football League items all owned by and awarded to 'Billy' William Mitchell. 'Billy' (born Lurgan, Northern Ireland, 1910 - Belfast 1978), turned professional in 1928 and went on to play for Distillery/Northern Ireland, Chelsea and Bath City. He was capped 15 times (11 at Chelsea), but his career was cut short by WWII. This lot includes three international velvet caps for 1931-32, 1936-37 and 1937-38, each with gold Irish Football Association Limited crest, made by AP Dalzell, Belfast; a pewter goblet awarded to Billy Mitchell by AIK from Stockholm in Sweden in 1936 (ill. in Rick Glanvill, Chelsea Football Club, p.89); two green vintage rubgy shirts, one with shamrock shield badge; an album of newspaper clippings; an album containing photographs, embroidered team badges, selection letters, game sheets, a Blackpool Football Club headed letter containing team member signatures (dated verso 1950); a photocopy of the front page of Chelsea FC Chronicle from 1936 where he featured as drawing on the front cover. Condition Report: There are no numbers on the reverse of the jerseys.
