A collection of antique and various costume jewellery including a silver marquisite set ring, paste brooches and stick pins, buckles and clips and an ivory ring, all in a black leather jewellery box. A lot. Together with a garnet bar brooch, rolled gold and set overall with small facetted garnets, a white metal torque style antique key ring, bearing the remains of Eastern markings, an Art Deco double brooch clip, set green and white pastes, stamped on the reverse 'Britpat 410696' and a 9ct yellow gold bar brooch, set three cabochon garnets. A lot.
A gentleman's pocket watch, in an engine turned 9ct gold hallmarked case, backed with a vacant garter cartouche, the compensated lever movement inscribed 'J.W. Benson, 62 and 64 Ludgate Hill, London. 'Best London Make' P9024', with a white enamel dial with a subsidiary seconds dial inscribed 'J. W. Benson, London'. Together with a late 19th century 18ct gold fine watch chain, with a brass Turkish fob seal. (2).
A Victorian oval bloomed gold hinged locket, having a large diamond set star on front, the central old cut diamond approx. 0.40carats, having 20 graduated small diamonds radiating in points from the centre, on a detachable yellow gold brick style collar approx. 0.5in. wide, the locket and chain both stamped '18'. Both in very good condition. Approx 82g. (all in).
A 19th century French Paris porcelain part dinner service, each piece with a gilt monogram, with frilled edge gilt borders (rubbed), the reverse stamped 'C.H. Pillivuyt & CR Medaille D'or Exp 1867.' Comprising:- 21 side plates, 12 dinner plates and 9 bowls. Together with a modern Royal Worcester gold vegetable dish. (43).
A group of 9 Chinese and Japanese silk textiles, the Chinese pieces including a damask panel with bats and shou, an embroidered silk panel made up of textile fragments, a pair of k'ossu long panels, a dragon and phoenix panel in silk embroidery and gold brocade on a silk gauze ground and a pair of red silk and gold brocade stool covers; also a Japanese silk kesa fukusa panel and a Japanese kesa scroll in silk and gold brocade with painted features. Mostly late 19th century. Sold as a collection with all faults not subject to return. (9)
Chinese royal blue satin panel, silk embroidered with vases and Auspicious Emblems, early 20th century, 75in. x 32in. 190cm. x 82cm. Together with a Chinese two-panel k'ossu, in dyed and painted silk on gold brocade ground, late 19th -20th century, total length 74 ? in. x 11in. 188cm. x 28cm. Slight damage one end, small stains. And section of Chinese silk damask with gold brocading, 18th-19th century, 18 ? in. x 20in. 41cm. x 51cm. Small areas of damage. (3)
An interesting Yomut ensi, Turkmenistan, third quarter 19th century, 4ft.10in. x 4ft.3in. 1.47m. x 1.30m. Slight wear in places, very slight loss to lower end. This wonderfully archaic ensi is of unusually small size and, although comparatively coarse in execution, has a remarkably rich and autumnal palette of nine colours Ð reddish brown, dark rust red, dark brown, purple brown, gold, light blue-green, turquoise, dark green and ivory. Within the four panels of the central field are repeated dogachik motifs and the main red ground border has a variant syrga pattern flanked by two ivory ground guards with ashik pattern. The five ornate kochanak-like figures in the base elem, flanked by vertical bars decorated with the saldat pattern with dogachik extensions, are most impressive.
Reginald Rex Vicat Cole R.O.I., R.B.C. (1870 - 1940), "A Moorland. Bolton Abbey", inscribed and dated 1897 on verso, oil on board, 13 x 23cm.; 5 x 9in. * Educated at Eton and studied at St. John Wood Art School from 1888. Exhibited at the Royal Academy and other leading London galleries. His work was also shown at the Paris Salon where he won a gold medal 1932, silver medals 1926 - 27 and an Hon. Mention 1925. In conjunction with Byam Shaw he formed the Byam Shaw and Vicat Cole School of Art.
Cecil Jeffery Thornton (1911 - ), "Sheep in Pastures", signed, watercolour, 18 x 27cm.; 7 x 10.5in. * Mural painter and decorator, born in Narborough, Leicestershire, where he chose to live. Studied at the College of Art there, his teachers including Ralph Middleton Todd and Hubert Hennes. Showed at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists and Paris Salon, where he gained a gold medal.
