Zorensky catalogue, fig. 430. This pattern, although named after the 18th century blue stocking Lady Mary Wortley Montagu (1689-1762), was not produced until several years after her death. Presumably it acquired its association with her through ownership by her descendants. The 1774 sale catalogue of Giles' stock included on the 4th day, 24 March 1774, lot 64 'a desert service of the fine mazareen blue enrich'd with chased and burnished gold, painted with birds and flowers...'
