A Late 18th or Early 19th Century Bone Fan, classically carved and pierced. The double leaf, of pink glazed paper, is decorated quite simply and elegantly with fringed swags to the top from which hang garlands of flowers, painted in soft green and yellow and some blue, and embellished with gold sequins. The recto is plain pink. Guard length 10 inches or 25.5cm Purchased at Christie's SK on May 17th 1978 for £18.00Some loss to one gorge stick.
A Late Victorian Fabric Fan, mounted on black wooden sticks, with unusual gold and ice blue decoration, the cream silk leaf printed with a design of fixed and folding fans, a small central depiction of buildings (possibly a Parisian skyline) surrounded by palms, and other exotic foliage. The verso is a plain eau de nil silk satin. Guard length 12.75 inches or 32.5cm. Together with a late 19th century fan of black wood, the monture pierced, the black gauze leaf bordered with black machine lace. Guard length 13.5 inches or 34.5cm (2) First fan: Purchased at Bonhams on 10th March 1979, one of two fans, for £30.00 Second fan: A present received at Christmas 1979 from Miss Kennedy's friendly neighbours.The second fan lacks the lower guard and the excess lace at that side has been folded back and secured to prevent it from damage.
A 19th Century Fan, the wooden monture painted brightly in gold, the double leaf of a vibrant blue silk satin, a fragment of 18th century bobbin lace applied to the top as a border, telescopic action, the verso plain. Guard length 7 inches or 18cm when closed. Together with A Late 19th/Early 20th Century Bone Fan, mounted with a double leaf, strong blue silk satin to the recto overlaid with white bobbin lace, the harebell shaped flowers in tape lace, the borders and reserves in ''cucumber'' lace. With a darker blue silk to the verso, the size 9.75 inches or 25cm; and Four Items Of Antique Lace, to include a Normandy lace circular table centre, a bobbin runner, a Maltese handkerchief and a machine lace shawl collar edged with tapelaceThe first fan is bright and clean, the verso with light foxing. The bone fan is a little grubby and the upper guard has been repaired. The Normandy lace centre is intact but very stained. The Maltese handkerchief is damaged.

Together with a yellow floral brocade fan tube stamped to the interior in gold for Duvelleroy, Passage Panoramas and 35 Bld ds capuchins. A Third Quarter 18th Century French Ivory Fan, the monture relatively plain save for carving to the upper guards, backed with cerise foil and gilded, and gilding applied to the shoulders/upper gorge. The double fabric leaf is plain to the verso, the recto being embroidered with metal thread and tiny gold sequins to highlight three features, those of a central vase of colourful flowers, and further flower sprays. Elsewhere on the leaf bright flowers alternate with groupings of musical instruments. A gilt and red painted border encompasses the designs. Guard length 10.5 inches or 26.5cm Purchased in an antiques shopLoss to the cerise foil in the upper guards, gilding bright, the leaf is relatively clean.
A Late 18th Century Blond Tortoiseshell Fan, the monture carved, pierced and gilded, the gorge in particular with figures the double paper leaf seemingly glazed on the verso. The recto, in chinoiserie style, is painted with several figures wearing simple robes, some appearing to bring refreshments. A lively dog accompanies the figure to the right, approaching a table which is decorated with blue and white panels and is placed next to an enormous lidded urn, with gold detail and a pink painted pagoda and foliage painted on otherwise blue and white porcelain. The verso is decorated with simple flowers. Guard length 10.5 inches or 26.5cm Purchased at Christie's on May 17th 1979 for £150.00Some restoration to the leaf seen from the verso and more folds require attention. Some foxing and soiling mainly on the verso.
A Mid-19th Century Fan, the heavy monture of pierced and gilded white mother-of-pearl, mounted with a double paper leaf, lithographed and hand coloured. The central scene depicts a gathering of elegant company, the men in tricorn hats and the ladies in their finery, a flower girl distributing roses. To each side, an extravagant floral basket, love tokens ribbons and bows. A print registration CFTF21114 DE?VAZ is present. The verso is vibrant, in candy pink and shiny embossed gold, the reserves filled with four elaborate urns, birds, torches, and quivers, the central cartouche showing a young girl eavesdropping on lovers. Guard length 10.5 inches or 26.5cm Purchased at Christie's SK on 13th May 1980 for £60.00Good, very colourful and detailed.
An 1870's to 1880's Japanese Ivory Fan, the monture embellished with gold lacquer, featuring birds, cranes and others, and foliage, the guards also inlaid with shibayama, tiny pink blossoms and some tinges of green. The double paper leaf is embroidered in coloured silks with flowers and birds and the fan is finished with an embossed silver metal loop, and a silk tassel bearing an ojime painted in gold. Contained in a fan box of black and gold lacquer. Guard length 13 inches or 33cm Purchased from Philips London on 1st September 1983 for £180.00Very good, clean, no loss to the shibayama inlay.
Oiseaux Exotiques: An Early 20th Century Bone Fan, retailed by Duvelleroy, and signed on the verso. The double silk leaf is embroidered with minute gold sequins, these forming a classical top and side border, further panels forming columns which support painted urns of roses. Three folds between each column are painted with flowers and foliage, also embellished with sequins, and centrally an exotic and colourful bird. Decoration and slight carving to the gorge and guards repeat this floral theme with the addition of musical instruments. The rivet is finished with diamanté and a tiny loop for ribbon. The fine cream silk on the verso is painted with roses and foliage. Signed to the left. Guard length 9.5 inches or 24cm. Together with A Card Fan Box, covered in cream silk, the lid interior labelled ''J Duvelleroy By Appointment London: 167 Regent Street Eventails Artistiques, Modernes, Antiques et pour Mariage. Fans repaired'' (2)Very good. Clean, colourful. The box is intact but the silk is foxed and fraying.
A Mid-19th Century Fan, with heavy mother-of-pearl monture, the gorge sticks carved and pierced and gilded and featuring leaping dogs and birds in trees, details emphasised with the use of differing shades of gold. The double paper leaf, lithographed and hand coloured, depicts ladies in a bower attended by one gentleman, a page offering refreshment of fruit. The reserves are filled with gold scrolling. The verso shows a rural scene with families by a riverbank, playing Blind Man's Buff, others relaxing with a dog, goat, sheep and a donkey. Guard length 10.5 inches or 26.5cm Purchased at Phillips London on 3rd October 1979 for £80.00.Large repair to the lower guard with overlaid MOP, and a small repair to the upper guard.
A 20th Century Chinese Fixed Fan of Lacquered Wood, the circular frame containing a cream silk panel delicately embroidered recto/verso with a basket a flowering rose tree within, a bird perched on the handle. Height 17.25 inches or 43.5 cm. Together with A 19th Century Mandarin Fan, the double paper leaf bordered in pink, mounted on wooden sticks, lacquered in black and decorated in gold, with a depiction of figures in a garden and two in a boat. The recto shows robed figures with applied ivory faces, the verso painted with flowers and foliage and a butterfly. Guard length 10.5 inches or 26.5cm. (2) First fan: Purchased from an Antiques market in 1978.Fan 1 - Good. Traces of an old price label remain on the handle. Fan 2 - The monture is clean, and sound. The leaf has some rubbing, and slight splitting with previous repairs likely.
An Early 20th Century Advertising Fan for ''Princes Hotel and Restaurant, Piccadilly London'', the double paper leaf mounted on wooden sticks painted white, the recto showing a country maid selling posies of flowers, the reserves decorated with floral swags and classical stone ornaments on which land a pair of white doves. Together with A Shaped Paper Fan Adverting The ''May Fair Hotel'' and printed with three vignettes in pink and blue, the central study that of perhaps Marie Antoinette, the side vignettes both showing cherubs at play; and An Advertising Fan For ''The Midland Hotel Restaurant'', the double paper leaf mounted on simple sticks, the recto printed in green and gold on cream and showing two social levels of courting couples. A Mid -19th Century White Mother-of-Pearl Fan, the monture pierced and silvered, the double leaf a hand coloured lithograph of King George III and his family, including six children, on a balcony, after Zoffany, the King wearing red velvet robes and royal regalia. The verso is painted with a simple riverbank scene with rural buildings. Decorative gold metal loop and diamante to the rivet. Guard length 10.25 inches or 26cm Purchased at Christie's SK on May 5th 1980 for £55Minor repair to the leaf seen from the verso. Slight mark where something has stuck to the verso and been removed.
A French Mid-18th Century Ivory Fan, the double leaf plain to the verso, mounted on carved, pierced and gilded sticks, the upper guards backed with pale pink mother-of-pearl, the recto shows a courting couple in 18th century dress, seated outdoors to play a card game, accompanied by a chaperone. The cartouche is bordered with gold sequins which further meander across the leaf, accompanied by further detail in metal thread and flowers, formed from coloured sequins. Guard length 10.75 inches or 27cm. Together with An 18th Century Ivory Fan, with similar monture, the double fabric leaf plain to the verso, the recto painted vertically in gold and colour, showing flaming torches, flowers and musical instruments, alternating with embroidery to the folds and simple sequin decoration. Contained in an 18th century tube covered in green mottled paper. Guard length 10.75 inches or 27 cm (3) First fan: Purchased on the 14th July 1979 from Mrs Pamela Hudson for £45.00 Second fan: Purchased at Christie's SK on 5th of December 1978 for £20.00Some restoration to the folds, some splitting to the recto held by the verso, and some wear to the folds. The tube is in good order. Some strains to the verso of the second fan.
Fans Across The World: A Quantity of 19th Century Fans, to include two fixed ''flag'' fans , woven from fibres, one embroidered with a peacock; A folding fan with individual panels mounted on horn, the sticks of several colours, the panels emulating feathers and coloured in teal and soft red, with gold highlights; a fixed fan on horn handle and frame; another fixed fan on light horn with an attractive and detailed pierced leaf highlighted in gold (the last 3 fans probably pierced and painted Buffalo hide and Buffalo horn, from Sumatra); a small woven fibre fixed fan with dyed purple fibre detail, and a fixed fan with wood handle and a pierced leaf, embroidered in green wool, a rose as the central feature (7)Light wear to the top corner of the flag fan with the peacock; the final fan with rose feature is damaged where the screen joins the handle.

Japanese padded screen: wear to the silk crepe centrally and to the edges, lacquer chipped on the handle tip and head. The two larger screens are very damaged.
