DICKENS CHARLES: (1812-1870) English Novelist. A.L.S., Charles Dickens, (a good example, with paraph), one page, 8vo, Tavistock House, 31st May 1854, ('5 o'clock afternoon') to E. M. Ward. Dickens states that he has only just received his correspondent's letter and continues 'I am sorry that the day you name will not suit me; but I hope that either Monday the 12th or the following Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, may be convenient to you.' Attractively triple matted in three pale shades of light brown and cream alongside an image of Dickens in a head and shoulders pose and framed and glazed in a gold coloured frame to an overall size of 18 x 15. VG Edward Matthew Ward (1816-1879) English Painter who made a series of paintings of famous writers, including one of Dickens in his study, executed in 1854. The present letter presumably relates to a sitting that Dickens made for the painting.

An unusual 10.5 x 6 newspaper cartoon by Rigby depicting an Apollo splashdown capsule being met by American naval officers, the capsule containing astronauts with various moon samples, and with a printed caption at the base, '...nickel, and GOLD! and it's mine, d'you hear? STUART CHARLES: (1720-1788) Jacobite Pretender to the thrones of England, Scotland & Ireland, known as Bonnie Prince Charlie or The Young Pretender. Fine A.L.S., Charles P, one page, 8vo, Paris, 1st January 1748, to Comte d'Argenson, in French. The Prince states that he has sought an audience with the King through the good offices of the Duc de Gesvres, and hopes that he can meet d'Argenson soon unless work prevents it. Professionally matted in gold and cream alongside a circular engraving of the Prince and framed and glazed in an ornate gilt frame to an overall size of 25 x 18. The small red circular stamp of the Archives d'Argenson at the University of Poitiers appears at the head of the letter, not affecting the text or signature. Rare. HIROHITO: (1901-1989) Emperor Showa. Emperor of Japan 1926-89. A fine, rare L.S., Hirohito, in Japanese characters, two pages, 4to, Hayama, 18th January 1966, to Americo Deus Rodrigues Thomaz, on attractive stationery featuring the gold embossed Imperial Japanese coat of arms at the head. The manuscript letter, in Japanese, acknowledges the receipt of Thomaz's letter 'announcing that you assumed the Presidency of the Portuguese Republic on the 9th of the same month by virtue of your re-election to it for the second tenure from 1965 to 1972' and continues 'I extend to you my sincere congratulations upon your assumption of the exalted office, and it has given me a great pleasure to know your earnest desire to maintain and strengthen the friendly relations between our two countries. I assure you that I will also spare no effort in cooperating with you so that the bonds of friendship and goodwill so happily subsisting between our two nations may ever be fostered and drawn still closer.' Accompanied by the original English translation remitted with the Emperor's letter, one page, 4to, also on stationery featuring the gold embossed Imperial Japanese coat of arms at the head. Together with the original envelope bearing the blind embossed paper seal of the Imperial Japanese coat of arms to the verso. Signed by both the Duke ('George') and Duchess ('Marina') in fountain pen ink to the base of the image, across a largely dark area although reasonably legible, and dated 12th May 1937, the day of the Coronation, in the Duke's hand. [WILHELM II]: (1859-1941) German Emperor and King of Prussia 1888-1918. A fine oversized, drawn trumpet, crystal glass wine goblet with a hexagonal, notch faceted stem and plain conical foot. The glass stands 14 inches tall and the bowl bears a gilt edge and the white, red, black and gold enamel naval standard of the Kaiser. The goblet is believed to have originated from the Imperial yacht, Hohenzollern, and dates from the early 20th century. VG

The majority of pages are multiple signed (although none are back to back) and most signatories have added a warm, friendly, admiring and, in many cases, humorous inscriptions to Trinder. The album dates from 1942-58 and many of the signatures were obtained following Trinder's performances at the London Palladium and other venues. To the cover, in gilt letters, appears the comedian's most famous catchphrase, You Lucky People! A wonderful collection of signatures and a great souvenir of one of Britain's best loved comedians. Some slight age wear, otherwise VG Quick-witted and fast-talking Trinder was one of Britain's most popular stand up comedians from the 1930s - 1960s and during World War II his shows brought welcome relief during the dark days of War. Trinder also appeared in films and on television, in 1955 becoming the first compere for the new programme Sunday Night at the London Palladium. The comedian was a lifelong fan and devoted supporter of Fulham Football Club and served as Chairman of the club in the 1960's. He was awarded the CBE in 1975. The album serves as a reminder of the great affection and respect Trinder afforded from his colleagues and admirers.

A large nylon 60 x 36 Jamaican flag, boldly signed by Bolt in black ink to a clear area at the centre, adding 100 + 200 beneath his signature.
