North Italian School of The Marches (circa 1300-1320), Madonna and child, tempera on gold ground panel within an integral gabled frame. 58.5 cm x 28.5 cm. NOTE - Sold with copy receipt from Richard Philip for £17,500 dated June 2002 (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: As you will see from the images two of the glass panels are missing. The others have varying degrees of perishing to the contents behind each panel. There are losses to the gilding at the front and some minor traces of woodworm are also visible. There are losses and nibbles to the gilt paintwork in particular around the base. When viewed from the sides there is evidence of old primitive nails and other traces of woodworm which is clearly long gone and now inactive. The same comments apply to the back of the piece. As you will be aware from our description we have an invoice for this piece dating back to 2002 when it was purchased by the current owners. We have attempted to take some photographs under a UV light which will show some slight areas of over painting on the face of the Madonna and arm of the child. The size of the painting itself is approx 17 cm x 12 cm. This excludes the slightly raised immediate rectangular frame which is within the gabled frame. We believe the frame to be integral to the panel. Please note that this lot as come to us from a private source but was purchased by the current owners in 2002 for £17,500. We have a copy of the receipt.

Two 19th century giltwood and white painted pelmets. Lengths 340 cm and 244.5 cm, each depth 29.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The large cornice is structurally very sound. The top moulded edge has numerous chips and sections of loss to the gesso. The gold leaf is also generally rubbed particularly along the top edge and returns. The pelmet is principally complete particularly when viewed from the front. Both the left and right hand returns have however been reduced in depth along the bottom return moulding presumably to accommodate an in-situ cornice. The smaller cornice is also structurally sound. The same comments apply with reference to the gesso and gilding namely that there are numerous small losses, scuffs and marks. When viewed from the front there do not appear to be any significant losses. The left hand return has a detached piece of gilt work but we do have the section. This pediment has also been reduced in depth at some point. Both pelmets have minor traces of long gone old woodworm. Both have also had some minor repairs and small losses to the gilt leaves.
A late 19th century diamond pendant, openwork design and set throughout with old brilliant cut diamonds with rose cut diamond point highlights, mounted in silver and gold. Diamond weight +/- 3.30 carats. Length 4.1 cm, in fitted case marked "Frazer & Haws, Regent Street, Piccadilly" (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The pendant was initially purchased at Bonhams in November 2009. The purchase price at the time was £3075. There is a certificate issued by Bonhams with the piece detailing the description. They also add that the diamonds have an estimated colour range of J-L and an estimated clarity of VS2 to I2. Please note this is not our opinion as we do not have this expertise. The pendant appears to be structurally very sound. We cannot see any evidence of any repairs. The centre stone has one small chip. There is some wear to the mounts between the claws on the centre stone. The stone is however not loose. The second tier stone at 11 o'clock is missing the small accompanying stone. There are no other missing stones but some do have very small chips

Width across arms 86 cm, height to top of back 102 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The chair is structurally very sound. There are no loose joints and no visible repairs to the legs. The upholstery is serviceable. There is no significant staining. There is some slight wear to the top of the right hand arm (as you look at the chair) and the piping around both arms appears to have been re-attached in places. There is some wear to the piping. The braiding is a little loose in places and the right hand side panel has detached itself from the arm upright. This will probably require re-stitching. The left hand panel is missing its braid and the old braid glue marks are visible.

All settings do have minor imperfections and are slightly misshapen. The gold is hollow. There are numerous small dints to all of the hollow settings. The clasp operates as it should and the safety chain is intact. There is some ware to all links but the piece is structurally sound.
