Attached to the two page typescript is a single page typed note from Behan to "Frank" (Francis McManus, novelist and broadcaster) regarding a proposed recording of the ballad for the popular 1950's Radio Éireann series The Ballad Makers' Saturday Night. Behan was a contributor of scripts and ballads to the show, including this incendiary version of the ballad commemorating the 1916 Rising which - as the note to McManus makes clear - Behan was keen to sing on air, as a typescript, w.a.f. 'Fifty Years of Love'Jack and Cottie Yeats, their wedding and anniversary Memorabilia. A wonderful collection including-A pair of white satin lady's dress shoes with silk bows, pigskin lined, by family tradition worn by Cottie White for her wedding to Jack Yeats, 1894;-An artificial flower, probably worn by Cottie on her wedding day, in a silver mounted jar (hallmarked);-A pale leather lady's handbag with elaborate embossed design, carried by Cottie on her wedding day, now somewhat soiled;-A gold locket with lapis lazuli and seed pearl decoration, mounted with a chain, engraved 'J.B. YEATS / M.C. YEATS / Aug. 23rd 1894 - Aug. 23rd 1944', and within the locket a folded paper oval inscribed 'From Jack to Cottie with 50 years love', in a Stokes & Son Jeweller's box, Dublin;-A pair of gold wedding rings, Jack's and Cottie's, hallmarked, one inscribed 'Christ alone made us two one', the other 'Heart content cannot repent'.-A gold Claddagh ring, hallmarked, probably Cottie's.-A gold mounted friendship bracelet with the word 'L'Amitie' [Friendship], set within an oval of seed pearls; with a matching oval inscribed 'Souvenir' [Memory] with damaged mount, Cottie's and/or Jack's.Jack Yeats met Mary Cottenham White, from an old and distinguished English family, when both were students at art schools in London. It was a love match from the start, and Jack settled down to work ten hours a day in an unheated room, drawing cartoons for 'Punch' and other outlets,to earn enough money to make marriage a possibility. They lived for some 20 years in a cottage in Devon, before moving to Greystones and later to Dublin. 'Cottie', as she was known since childhood, was herself a promising artist in an 'art-nouveau' style, but chose not to compete with her husband, and devoted her life to making a home for Jack. They were not blessed with children; otherwise it appears to have been a marriage made in Heaven - as testified by Jack's hand-written anniversary gift, 'with 50 years love'. Cottie died three years later, in 1947.As a collection, w.a.f.Provenance: Yeats family, estate of Anne Yeats, from a trunk owned by Jack Yeats and held in a bank vault.

18th Century Manuscript Volumes on French Peerage Manuscript: "Recueil de tous les actes concernant les Ducs & Pairs de France. Ensemble L'origine de la Pairie d'Angleterre & des Grands d'Espagne. Depuis l'an 900 jusqu'en 1660." Vol. II & III (ex 3) 4to, 327 and 391ff respectively. Bound in contemporary mottled calf with embossed gold tooled supralibros and elaborately gold tooled spine. Marbled endpapers. In excellent condition, apart from slight cracking of joints in vol 3.The arms embossed in gold tooling on the boards of both volumes are those of Gabriel Bernard, Comte de Rieux (1687-1745), a member of the Parlement de Paris and from 1727, President of the Chambre des Comptes. In this capacity he presumably needed works such as these, reproducing the decrees associated with the peerage of France. In his fine pastel portrait by Maurice Quentin de la Tour, now in the Getty Center, Los Angeles, he is shown wearing his official robes, seated in his library; on the table beside him repose two volumes very similar in appearance to those now on offer.
