The following five lots were the property of a lady who lived in Germany in the 1930s and was a personal secretary to General Eisenhower throughout the European Campaign of World War II. (309-313) AN EARLY VICTORIAN SHIELD BACKED GOLD SOVEREIGN 1853, in clip pendant mount.
A FRENCH PORCELAIN PLATE, with scroll moulded rim around a fluted field, overall decorated with painted fantastic birds, butterfly`s and insects on an overall white ground with gilded rim. Painted gold anchor mark to base. Probably Samson of Paris in imitation of 18th century Chelsea. 8.5" Diameter. Second half 19th century.
Luftschutz (Anti-Aircraft Defence) Buckle and SA Sports Badge. A Luftschutz silver grey belt buckle in excellent condition marked "RS & S" (some slight rust on back) together with two tunic buttons manufactured by Assmann and Sohne with RZM stamp. A SA Sports Badge in gold inscribed "Eigentum D Chefs D Ausdildungswesens" (Property of the head of Physical Conditioning) c.1935, manufactured by E Schneider Udenscheid, and numbered 234010. The Vendor states that his father serving with the Royal Engineers crossed the Rhine in an inflatable boat under fire and jumped into the nearest trench, on landing they found a senior NCO or officer in full dress and liberated the above items together with his Luger and boots etc (the latter were disposed of long ago). Also included with this lot a photograph and ration book etc belonging to the vendor`s father.

A large leather bound volume containing a selection of black and white photographs of "Kiln Quay" - the house, garden, interior rooms and views from the garden, each page mounted with a single image, the cover with gold lettering "Kiln Quay" together with a similar volume of photographs of "The Wincel" (Tompsets Bank, East Sussex)c.1929 , a smaller album of The Wincel images and another of "Farley Court" (Farley Hill, Reading) c.1933 (4). NB: In 1919 Joan Beach fell in love with a Cornish sea captain. She could not bear to leave her beautiful, 400 year old house in Sussex, so moved it to Cornwall where it was reconstructed in Flushing. The photographs were taken c.1928 in Cornwall and provide an extensive record of the house and grounds at that date.
