A Victorian silver inkstand. Horace Woodward & Co., London, 1893. Of circular form, the stand repousse decorated with scrolling floral and foliate motifs supporting a silver mounted glass inkwell, the hinged cover embossed with scrolling foliate motifs and a shaped, vacant cartouche, 16.2cm dia., approx. 9cm high, weighable silver approx. 4.4ozt Provenance: The Collection of Mary and Alan Hobart, Founders of Pyms Gallery Condition Report: The weighable silver includes the inkstand without inkwell. Good condition overall, some general pitting and scratching commensurate with age. The hallmarks to the inside of the lid are clear. The hallmarks to the dish are slightly rubbed, most notably to the date letter. The hallmarks to the collar of the bottle are slightly worn. The glass bottle is loose in its stand and rocks back and forth. The decoration is clear. Some marks to the rim of the dish. Of shaped, oval form and with scalloped rim, raised on four bracket feet, presentation engraving to base, 20cm wide, together with: a small swing-handled silver bonbon dish, Birmingham, 1911, Levi & Salaman, the pierced circular dish raised on three paw feet, 10.7cm dia.; a silver sauce boat, Birmingham, 1911, Charles S. Green & Co., the flying c-scroll handle to gadrooned rim, raised on three pad feet, 15.5cm wide (inc. handle); a small silver vase, London, 1911, William Comyns & Sons, of baluster form and raised on a stepped, circular foot, filled base, 10.5cm high; a 20th century silver capstan inkwell, Birmingham, William Neale & Son (marks rubbed), the lid engraved with motto and dates, clear glass liner and filled base, 12cm dia. (measured to base); a silver plated swing-handled sugar basket, pierced and embossed with scenes of birds amongst vegetation, raised on three pad feet, liner deficient, 9cm high, and other items, total weighable silver approx. 19.1ozt (a lot) Condition Report: The weighable silver doesn't include the small vase with filled base, the capstan inkwell and the silver plated sugar basket.

First assayer (assaggiatore) Giuseppe Fontana (1789-1814), second assayer (contrassaggiatore) Giuseppe Veroni (1779-1824), the quatrefoil-shaped inkstand designed with a beaded border and foliate quarters, complete with blue glass inkwells and detachable inkwell holders, both pierced and decorated with laurel garlands to sides, the hinged covers with foliate finials, inkstand engraved with monogram, 30cm wide, approx. weight 15.5ozt (exc. glass inkwells) Footnotes: For a description of the marks on this piece, please see: Argenti Italiani del Settecento. Punzoni di garanzia. Punzoni degli argentieri. V. Donaver and R. Dabbene. Pp 12-17Stamped with the mark for Giuseppe Fontana used until the end of 1793, at which point his mark changed (see pg. 17, Donaver & Dabbene) and the mark for Giuseppe Veroni used pre 1793. These marks therefore indicate that the inkstand was assayed c.1793.
A Japanese mixed metal bronze inkwell modelled in the form of a creel fishing basket, Meiji period (1868-1912), the hinged cover with raised design depicting various coloured fish & crustaceans, opening to reveal removable glass liner, the realistic basket weave side with applied snail & crab, 6.5cm. diameter.
Victorian inlaid rosewood portable work box, the hinged top opening to reveal a silk-lined interior with lift-out compartment, above a pull-out compartment enclosing a tooled writing surface, 17.5cm high, 31cm wide and 23cm deep.CONDITION REPORT: Not all compartments present to pull-out work section. Some loose parts present. Lacking covers to stationery compartments. Inkwell is present. There is a piece of wood, but does not fit. The slope extends freely and the morocco skiver is in good condition. There is a crack and minor scratches to the top of the box. Minor staining and some age-related losses to the inlay. The top opens and closes freely. There is a deep crack to the underside.
