Rare Georgian tortoiseshell and silver mounted travelling inkwell, the slightly domed cover enclosing fitted interior, 8cm wideGood original condition, the lid is slightly warped, the silver lids do not match each other and are not hallmarked. The glass pots have some nibbles to collars. They measure 19mm square and 15cm high inclusive of lids.
A rare Caughley blue and white inkwell, c.1780, of capstan shape, printed with small flower sprigs between cell diaper borders, the shoulder pierced with four quill holes, blue C mark, the liner lacking, 8.2cm across.Cf. Ca. AD 1100 - 1300.A Medieval Seljuk bronze inkwell decorated on its cylindrical body with three registers. The main one bears a long kufic inscription, while the others are simple geometric decorative motifs. The lid is composed of an unusual double ridge shape and is surmounted with openwork decoration. For similar see: Islamic Metalwork from Afghanistan (9th-13th century), n. 390. Size: 120mm x 100mm; Weight: 560g Provenance: Property of a London Islamic art specialist collector; previously in a collection formed since the 1980s.
