Green & Co. Ltd, Birmingham 1942; and a capstan-shaped inkwell, with tortoiseshell mount to the hinged cover, London 1919; together with an Indian nielloed cylindrical box and cover, and three plated thimbles. A Victorian horse’s hoof inkwell, with silver plated mounts, the hinged lid with presentation plaque inscribed ‘To James Jolliffe from his friend Welch Thornton’, a further inscription to the underside of the lid reads ‘In affectionate remembrance of Little Yafford Mare who during a gallant run with the Isle of Wight Fox Hounds was through Shorwell’s treachorous bridge precipitated from a height of thirty feet into the road below, February 1866’, height 9cm (3 1/2in).
