A 19th-century brass mounted burr walnut inkwell and matching pen tray, together with a cold painted bronze pen wipe in the form of a running fox (3)Condition report: The inkwell is a marriage and the glass does not sit in the base correctly. The inkwell cap has numerous dents. Some evidence of old worn to one of the bun feet. Some age related cracking to main body. Pen tray in reasonable condition with some minor wear. Brush wipe in good condition. The fox is not signed, there are no foundry marks at all.

Squadron Leader Cecil Arthur Rea A.F.C., Royal Air Force Test Pilot Interest:- a silver mounted glass inkwell, the hinged cover engraved with a monogram and presentation inscription 'From B & P Flight Shed Staff, Sept. 1929', a silver cigarette box with engraved inscription 'Presented to Sq.Ldr.C.A.Rea, A.F.C. from his fellow directors and the members in appreciation of his valued services to the Club, May 1938', together with numerous newspaper cuttings, letters, photographs and related ephemera.Footnote:- Squadron Leader Cecil Arthur Rea was a test pilot with the RAF and Marine Aircraft and Experimental Establishment test flying marine aircraft. In 1926, at the end of his RAF service, he joined the company of Boulton& Paul as full-time test pilot until 1934, when the aircraft department was sold to Sir Charle Hayward's Electic and General Industries Trust and moved from Norfolk to Wolverhampton. Rea then started his own aircraft components business. During his time at Boulton & Paul he took part in a competition held by Norwich and Norfolk Aeroplane Club in aid of a Norwich hospital. The competition was a 70 mile race between twelve racing pigeons and an aeroplane flown by Squadron Leader Rea without the aid of compass or map. He won the race by 15 minutes. The newspaper cuttings from 1932 relate to this competition.
A Caughley porcelain ink well with fixed linercirca 1780of capstan shape with four quill holders, transfer-printed in underglaze blue with the 'Bell Toy' pattern, the unglazed base indistinctly marked in blue,10.5cm diameter (restored)Condition report: With the naked eye, evidence of some good relatively good quality restoration can be seen to an approximately 7cm wide section of the lowest edge of the base. This restoration is on the same side as the secondary print. Under UV, it appears as though this restoration has been done to fill and cover two, or possibly three, chips to this area. The underside of the base shows some more obvious evidence of this restoration work, in the form of white paint. The fixed inkwell has a firing crack visible to one side, near the joint of the inkwell where it meets the body. Please see additional images for a closer look at this.No further damages or repairs.
