19th Century `Grand Tour` engraved and embossed brass and micro mosaic inkwell decorated with hounds in a landscape and inset with carnelian and malachite cabochons, the hinged cover inset with a micro-mosaic and lapis lazuli panel depicting The Arch of Septimuis Severus, 12cm wide Blue border to micro mosaic has four hairline cracks running from the edges to the mosaic. The underside is open which would suggest there may well have been a base at some point - General condition consistent with age **
A Callow shagreen mounted gilt metal double inkwell, dedicated from Nancy, Lady Astor the eight-sided body raised on bun feet, with two hinged cover, each well with gilt metal inkwell tops, stamped Callow 22.5cm. wide Provenance given by Nancy, Lady Astor to Jakie on his 25th Birthday. Nancy, Lady Astor (1879-1964) was the first woman to sit as a Conservative Member of Parliament in the House of Commons - taking her seat in December 1919.
