COLNAGHI, 23 Cockspur Street, London`, 48.2 x 35.7cm in a glazed bird`s eye maple frame, the verso with a paper label for `J. C. Brown, Salisbury Street, Blandford, No. 1024`.
Abbott, Lemual Francis (b.1760- d.1802) "THE BLACKHEATH GOLFER" c1900 – coloured engraving of William Innes and inscribed below "To The Society of Goffers at Blackheath – This Plate is with just Respect Dedicated by Their most humble Servant Lemuel Francis Abbott" and to the lower right "Engraved by V. Green Mezzotint Engraver to his Majesty the elector Palatine – good plate mark in original frame with gilt slips overall 30.75" x 22.25". Note: This was the first golf print to be published in 1790 and pictured William Innes The Captain of The Society of Golfers at Blackheath in 1778
Joseph Mallord William Turner R.A. (1775-1851) Gloucester Cathedral The Hare The Boston Stump Mezzotint 19 x 25cm; 7½ x 9¾in A number of mezzotint plates were found in Turner’s house after he died including this plate which has threetitles.Itwasneverprinted in Turner’s lifetime Sir Francis Seymour Hayden took a few impressions c.1873 and it was subsequently sold and then reworked. The source of the composition is the watercolour of 1823-6 in the Tate Gallery. ++Some time staining/damp to the margins not trimmed.

Lisabetta Du Parc detta La Francesina, 1737, fine uncoloured mezzotint, half-length portrait on laid paper by John Faber the Younger after George Knapton, published by John Faber at the Golden Head in Bloomsbury Square, 1737, plate size 328 x 226mm (12.9 x 8.9ins), sheet size 355 x 248mm (14 x 9.75ins) The French soprano Elisabeth Duparc, known as La Francesina, appeared regularly in performances of the oratorios and operas of Handel in London, including the title role in the premiere of Semele. -1
* Grassini (Giuseppina, 1773-1850). Giuseppina Grassini, in the character of Zaira, after a portrait by Madame Lebrun, published by Colnaghi & Co., London, 1806, uncoloured mezzotint, by Samuel William Reynolds (1773-1835), light spotting mainly confined to margins, central horizontal crease, 55 x 40cm (22 x 16ins), framed and glazed. Grassini was a celebrated Italian contralto and singing teacher. At different times, she was mistress to both Napoleon and the Duke of Wellington. -1

* Kelly (Michael, 1762-1826). A half-length portrait of Michael Kelly, shown sitting in typical Regency costume holding a musical score, after a painting by James Lonsdale (1777-1839) engraved by C. Turner, published by Sams, June 1 1825, mezzotint engraving, 33 x 22cm (13 x 9ins), framed and glazed, together with Braham (John, 1774-1856), A half-length portrait of the singer John Braham, after a drawing by J. G. Wood, engraved by A. Cardon, published by John Thompson, March 25 1807, stipple engraving, lightly toned, 35 x 24cm (14 x 9.5ins), framed and glazed. Michael Kelly was famous both as a singer and for an eventful personal life; he maintained an affair with Anna Maria Crouch, who was also having an affair with George, Prince of Wales, despite being married to a naval officer. Kelly had the honour of singing at the last night of the Old Drury Lane theatre before it was demolished. In his retirement from singing he ran a wine shop. -2
* Ward (James). Mrs Billington as Saint Cecilia, after a portrait by Joshua Reynolds, published Messrs. Ward and Co., 1803 [or later], mezzotint with contemporary colour, trimmed to image on three margins, a little scattered spotting, 19th century gallery label to verso, framed and glazed, 65 x 41cm (25.5 x 16ins). Copies of this print are held at the British Museum and the Victoria & Albert Museum. -1
A late 19th century Abyssinian hide and whitemetal mounted shield (taja):, the circular domed hide with central pointed boss, strapwork and flower head applique, the reverse with hide lining and single handle, label inscribed `Abyssinia 1868`, also together with a coloured mezzotint of Abyssinian tribesman with an example of the shield (2)
Thomas Tompion - a photolithographic portrait, Reproduced from the mezzotint portrait engraved by John Smith after Kneller, 20th century. The likeness wearing a wig and buttoned jacket holding a watch movement in his right hand, within oval reveal and entitled Tho: Tompion. Automatopoeus to lower border and bearing inscriptions G: Kneller Eques. Pinx: and I: Smith fe: et ex: to lower margin, the image 34.5 x 25cm (13.5 x 9.5ins) approx., unframed. The current lot appears to be a photographic reproduction of the famous portrait engraved by John Smith after the original by Sir Godfrey Kneller circa 1710.

After John Martin (British 1789-1854) THE FALL OF NINEVEH, mezzotint engraving, within a card mount and moulded gilt frame, under glass. 50cm x 80cm *** Nabopolassar, a Chaldean leader, aided by Medes and northern nomads, attacked, looted and destroyed Nineveh, an event that marked the crumbling of the last vestiges of power in Assyria and established the foundations for the Neo-Babylonian Empire. Discolouration to mount and losses to frame^ dirt to underside of glass.
