Lambert Aylmer Bourke (1761-1842) A Description of the Genus Cinchona. London printed for B. and J. White 177 4to (310mm x 250mm) half title 13. mezzotint plates occasional foxing original boards spine worn in places extremities rubbed Lambert was considered by some to have been one of the most ardent and experienced botanists of his generation. He built up a renowned botanical library and a herbarium that grew to be one of the most important and valuable in Euroe. Cinchone had and indeed still has greatmedical importance as a source of quinine. Lamberts treatise is dedicated to Joseph Banks who provided information drawings and specimens which were invaluable to Lambert in producing his book. Eight of the plates were from drawings by Ferdinand Bauer one new species Cinchona Longiflora was described here for the first time. Henrey pp. 33.

Osborne and R.S. Austin at the Royal College of Art. Returning to Staffordshire he concentrated on producing atmospheric views of The Potteries.

Dame Laura Knight R.A., R.W.S., R.E. (1877 - 1970), "The Sleeping Darkie", signed and numbered 36/50 in pencil in the margin, woodcut, 25.5 x 19cm.; 10 x 7.5in. * Painter, etcher, aquatint, mezzotint and wood engraver of figure subjects and landscapes. Born in Derbyshire, she studied at Nottingham School of Art and at the Royal College of Art. She married Harold Knight in 1903 and lived in Yorkshire, Cornwall and London. Her use and combination of all the etching and engraving methods show her interest in technique.
