A Meissen figure of a woodcutter circa 1745-50 modelled by J.J. Kandler, using an axe to split a plank of wood, wearing a black hat, yellow vest with gilt buttons, white shirt and brown breeches crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue 13.5cm., 5.25in. minor restoration to left thumb, right shoulder and right lower leg, silvering on axe blade flaking Kandler's Taxa of November, 1745, records: Bauer, so das geschnittene Holz hauet, oder spaltet, zu der Graff Bruhl. Conditorey [a farmer, chopping or splitting wood, to Count Bruhl's confectionary]. A similar figure was sold in these Rooms, 3rd July 2003, lot 67.

A 17th Century Style Processional Halberd, the wrought iron head with shaped axe and beak etched with a coat of arms, crowned monogram, eagle with ball and sceptre, scrolling foliage and date 1612, all bearing traces of gilt, surmounted by a ribbed double edge blade, square socket etched with the initials BS and with securing collar, four long langets and chamfered square wooden shaft. **Ex: Lowther Castle

A Collection of Three Neolithic Greenstone Axe Heads, of thin butted type, 28cm, 32cm and 33cm long. Together with a booklet "Four Polished Stone Axes" by James McIntyre, 1937, in which they are documented.. Discovered in the ground when digging for foundations for a farmhouse near Penrith owned by the vendor's great great grandfather .
