Heavy All-Steel Indian Battle Axe Zagnal, possibly 18th century, curved head with thickened point and 2 pairs of shallow fullers, baluster mount with an elephant in relief on the peen, dome-shaped finial, the 5 stage haft is alternatively polygonal and multi-facetted and with a turned finial. Good condition and with good age patina. Overall length 70cms, blade 20cms.
Interesting 17th or 18th Century Indian Axe Zagnal, slightly curved beak-shaped head of thick square section, tall thick top spike, with integral tang and 2 piece wooden grips. Overall 80cms, blade 22cms. Good condition for age, retains some original silver foil damascene, wooden grips restored, some rust and pitting.
Unusual Indian All Steel Axe Zagnal, 18th or 19th Century, curved blade of thick square section and cut with a pair of fullers, cube-shaped iron peen, cylindrical iron haft with screw-in knife and separate cover for the blade. Overall 50cms, blade 13cms. Good condition for age, some rust and pitting overall and traces of gold koftgari to root of blade and sheath.

HACHE D'ABORDAGE D'HONNEUR (Honorary Axe for Boarding the Enemy) Superb replacement model, 104x61 mm, cast in Silver and engraved by hand "Le 1er Consul/au Cen Philippe Ferey/Matelot Timonier/Combat du 27 THer an 9/DEVt Boulogne" and subsequently gilt. The recipient was a navy quartermaster (matelot timonier) on the gunship Etna and received this award on 11 Brumaire of year X for having distinguished himself in the combat of Boulogne fl eet on 27 Thermidor year IX. It is during that naval battle that he had his right hand blown away by a cannonball. Extremely rare published reward! Provenance collection "General Stiot". II RR!
