A NEW GUINEA WORK AXE. Having a large rounded stone inset in a large hardwood mount, of some age. The shaft length of 28" is at its widest some 5", the stone of 12" by 3.1/2". Used among other tasks for tree cutting, ceremonial and other meetings Sing Sing and Moka exchanges, etc. Among which are also bartering for Salt, Oil and lastly payment for a Bride.

A collection of Indian and Eastern weapons, comprising: a fighting axe (bulova), Chota Nagpur, broad blade forming a concave cutting edge, transverse ridge to the back of the socket, wooden haft 28 in.; a tulwar, curved blade 29 in., Indo-Muslim hilt with unusual bifurcated knucklebow; a Sri-Lankan sword (kastane), curved single edged blade 20 in., iron guard with two curved spurs framing the ricasso and a knucklebow tihe dragon terminal, horn hilt carved with bestial head terminal; and a Malaysian knife (golok), broad single edged blade 11 in., wooden hilt and scabbard with carved projections in the Sumatran manner, scabbard engraved 'ALOR GAJAH'. A good kukri, heavy blade 15 in., horn hilt with white metal collar, leather covered scabbard with modest stitched decoration; together with an Indian all steel axe, head with crescent shaped edge set to a block with spikes to the opposite face and top, slender haft 19 in.; and a Moroccan dagger (koummya), fan shaped pommel, scabbard decorated in light relief. The Berlin Missionary Society: 1849 November 19, entire written by Carl Friedrich Julius Schultheiss, headed 'Itemba, 19th Nov 1849', addressed initially to Cape Town, then readdressed to 'Rev'd C Blech, Mission Seminary, Sebastian Strasse, Berlin, with various m/script rate markings, reverse bears boxed "AMERICA per ENGLAND', in black, "INDIA LETTER/FALMOUTH' in blue and London transit cds for 1 FE 50 in red, although headed 'Itemba' this mission was burnt down during the 1847-49 'War of the Axe' and Schultheiss was probably based at Bethany at the time of writing, accompanied by an English translation of the contents, a rare and fascinating early missionary item (Plate )

30 hour Automata longcase clock by John Lewis of Llanidloes. Arched brass dial with 'Set Thine House In Order For Thou Shalt Die, Isaiah 38 Vers 1' above a painted automaton panel depicting a skeleton (Death) holding an axe and his victim shown in bed praying. In oak case. 220cm high Condition Report. Very untouched, dial, movement and seat board all belong. Heavy 'country quality' case. 12" dial.
Victorian Shield-Shaped Oak Board Covered with a Display of Indian Weapons, 19th century and earlier, comprising Tanjore katar with chiselled iron hilt; katar with gold decorated hilt and thick wootz blade; a tulwar in its scabbard; 6 kukris comprising 3 with fine blades, 1 with silver pommel, 3 in scabbards including a small one with m.o.p and jade hilt; an iron axe with twin crescent head and iron shaft; 2 kards comprising 1 with bone grips and 1 with brass grips; a pair of knives with niello pommels; an all-iron dagger bich’wa with integral hilt and blade; and a smoking pipe with small brass bowl.
