Rare Victorian brass skeleton timepiece of two week duration, by John Pace, Bury St. Edmunds, no. 320 - the spire-shaped frame cast of 6mm thick plates with chamfered edges joined by turned pillars, the ormolu skeleton chapter ring with Arabic numerals and blued hands, the going barrel movement configured so as to rise up the central section turning the spoke crossings terminating in a deadbeat escapement, the pendulum with 'axe-headed' bob and steel rod with rise and fall regulation screw above, to the rear a series of pulleys united by a small fusee chain combine to drive the hands, the whole raised on an oval stepped brass base, signed - 'John Pace Bury St. Edmunds 320', on oval mahogany plinth on bun feet, under glass dome, the timepiece 32cm high, 41.5cm including dome (key present) CONDITION REPORT General overall condition is very good. Movement is clean and in full working order. Plates have some minor nicks to sharp edges. Mahogany plinth may not be original and has some damage to veneer. Dome is possibly a replacement
Mesolithic, 18000-8000 BC. A mixed group comprising: a heavy 'Thames Pick' type axe; three cleavers formed on heavy flint flakes; a heavy keeled scraper; a small flint chopping implement. 1.02 kg total, 13.7-17.2cm (5 1/4 - 6 3/4). From the Dr Brian Poole Collection, Salisbury, Wiltshire, UK; found by vendor, Ashmore, Dorset, UK. [5, No Reserve]. Fine condition.
dating: circa 1800 provenance: France, Heavy, convex-edged, iron axe, with remains of a stamp on one face; hexagonal block featuring a brass plaque at the top; iron beak shaped as an arrow tip, ribbed at the centre; iron straps held by rivets; wooden haft of elliptical section, brass grip. height 97 cm.

A PAIR OF GEORGE IV SHEFFIELD PLATE DISH WARMERS AND LINERS, MATTHEW BOULTON & PLATE CO., BIRMINGHAM, CIRCA 1825 circular, each on four applied paw and foliate supports, similar handles, the gadroon-bordered liners engraved with a coat-of-arms, motto and crest, detachable metal grille interiors 34cm over handles The arms are those of Salomons impaling Cohen for David Salomons (1797-1873), second son of Levy Salomons of St. Mary Axe, London, upon his marriage in 1825 to his first wife, Jeanette (1804-1867), daughter of Solomon Levi Cohen of Canonbury House and granddaughter of the famously weathy Levi Barent Cohen. Salomons became the first Jewish Lord Mayor of London in 1855 and in 1869 was created a baronet. He was also one of the founders of the London and Westminster Bank in 1832. See lot 696 for a snuff box belonging to Sir Moses Montefiore, whose wife, Judith, was the aunt of Jeanette Salomons. Sir David Salomons, like his wife's uncle, played a prominent part in achieving Jewish emancipation in the kingdom. His house near Tunbridge Wells, Broomhill, is now preserved as the Salomons Estate, containing a museum charting the history of the family.
