9th-11th century AD. An iron axehead with long sturdy neck and curved cutting edge; round socket with triangular lateral flanges and long rectangular back panel to the rear; mounted on a custom-made display stand. Cf. Arbman, H. Birka I: Die Gräber, Uppsala, 1940, pl.14(10) for type. 2.4 kg total, axe: 23.5cm (9 1/4"). From the family collection of a South East London collector; formerly acquired in the late 1950s. Very fine condition, professionally cleaned and conserved.

A trio of WWII medals comprising 1939-45 Star, Defence Medal and the Air Crew Europe Star, each with ribbons and a selection of cap badges to include Royal Engineers, one paring axe and pincers, two Huntingdonshire badges, a King George V Silver Jubilee Medal etc. CONDITION REPORT From a private home clearance, no reason to doubt medals are genuine.
