A George V 1897 Pattern Presentation Infantry Officer's Sword, with etched, fullered blade, the pierced, plated hilt inscribed, ''Presented to J.W. Patterson by his Colleagues in the General Valuation Office, Belfast, January 1915'', wirebound fishskin grip, leather-covered scabbard; a French 1831 Pattern short sword (gladius) (scabbard lacking); and a British military issue ice axe, with oak haft and webbing loop grip, the head stamped broad arrow mark, dated 1943 and bearing maker's name, ''Brades'' (3)Presentation sword - Blade badly rusted. Hilt with degraded, laquered finish. Scabbard with scuffing to leather and small losses to tip. French sword - Blade badly rusted. Scabbard lacking. Ice axe - Metal parts rusted. Otherwise good.
A group of bladed items, comprising a Trench Art letter opener commemorating the battle of Messines 1917, a steel curved bladed opener with handle modelled as the Eiffel Tower, dated 1889, an early 20th century East African hard wood handled axe possibly Tanzanian, 41 by 28cm, an Indian leaf bladed short knife with horn and wire bound grip and a hunting knife with staghorn handle. An Austrian ice/mountaineering climbing pick-axe by Stubai, the steel head stamped with makers marks and "original Aschenbrenner Ges Gesch", with painted makers label to wooden shaft, 77cm long, together with a vintage ice/mountaineering climbing pickaxe by Wekgen Fulpmes circa 1920's, stamped indistinctly with makers mark to steel head and initialled to wood shaft 'RJVC', 68cm long (2)
A Märklin painted cast iron model field gun circa 1916-18, together with a pair of field binoculars, a quantity of horse brasses and a selection of tribal artefacts including carved wooden antelope heads, hippopotamus, crocodiles, carved antelope, two tribal axes and an ice axe CONDITION REPORTS Concentrating on the Märklin field gun - suspect some of the firing mechanism is missing, various signs of rust, wear to the paintwork. Wheels are wobbly. Various general signs of wear and tear and obviously requires attention as possibly not all complete - see images for further details. An Indian elephant axe profusely inlaid floral decoration to the blade, the handle with elephant finial and engraved foliate decoration having a scabbard with brass mounts, 74cm long/see illustration Condition Report: Lot 1198: Scabbard a bit tired, holes, loose stitching, damage to gilt mounts. Axe has surface wear particularly to hilt. Slight flaw to blade edge.
