A German Third Reich Mountaineering Axe, the steel head stamped maker's name, ''Stubai'', etched with Third Reich emblem and ''Fur Erinnerungen Meine Dienstzeit'' to the obverse and further etched 'Geb. Pionier Bataillon No.54'' to the reverse, the ash haft branded initials H.V. and stamped JGR 137, steel ring with woven carrying strapSlight rusting to metal parts but overall good.

Rare 19th century pipe tomahawk with cast bronze head, mounted on original wooden, slightly bowed shaft with tapered end, 56cm long CONDITION REPORT Axe head is loose- generally wear commensurate with age. Stem has number of splits vertically with the grain, otherwise basically ok, good patination, hole to the terminal
Mesolithic, 18000-8000 BC. A mixed group comprising: a heavy 'Thames Pick' type axe; three cleavers formed on heavy flint flakes; a heavy keeled scraper; a small flint chopping implement. 1.02 kg total, 13.7-17.2cm (5 1/4 - 6 3/4"). From the Dr Brian Poole Collection, Salisbury, Wiltshire, UK; found by vendor, Ashmore, Dorset, UK. [5, No Reserve] Fine condition.
dating: 18th Century provenance: Eastern Europe, Big, convex axe of crescent shape, bottom cusp provided with an eyelet and held to the shaft by a nail, the upper one slightly reinforced. Thin neck with roundish block. Tulip-shaped butt, provided with four cusps. More recent, wooden shaft, with woodworm damages. height 137,5 cm.
dating: 17th Century provenance: Italy, Double-edged cusp, pierced in the center and engraved with floral motifs, placed on a pierced globe with six arms, a chiselled mask in the center of each; pierced axe and beak, engraved en suite, two rests in the center; flat straps. Nice, wooden, original haft completely covered with velvet bands (partially worn-out) and decorate with brass rivets and red tassels. height 238.5 cm.
dating: 17th Century provenance: Italy, Double-edged cusp, engraved with floral motifs at the base, placed on a pierced globe with six arms, a chiselled mask in the center of each, pierced axe and beak, engraved en suite, two rests in the center; flat straps. Original, wooden haft completely covered with velvet bands (completely worn-out) and decorated with brass rivets and red tassels. length 247 cm.
dating: 19th Century provenance: Indopersia, Strong and thick, convex-edged axe, in damask, sharpened downwards. With frame along the border, gold-inlaid with floral motifs. Block chiselled with gilded rinceaux in bass-relief. Flat butt, of square shape, with gilded frame and chiselled with rinceaux en suite. Without shaft. Completely gold-inlaid with drawings, also the back and bottom. height 7,5 cm.
dating: 19th Century provenance: Indopersia, Round-edged axe, with Arabic writings among floral motifs, the border decorated with silver floral motifs, the rest of the surface featuring wave-engravings, rectangular handle with writing; iron haft with faceted segments and parts carved as spirals with silver decorations. height 79.5 cm.
dating: Early 19th Century provenance: Indopersia, Thick, iron head with a slightly convex-edged axe, one side decorated with a carving portraying a tiger assaulting an ox, surrounded by the animals, the opposite side featuring a similar scene, in which there is also a building. All on a dotted background. Block portraying birds. Back and base with rinceau decorations. Wooden, cylindrical haft, covered with brass foils and decorated with floral motifs (small part missing at the grip). Head's locking mechanism is missing. Three, brass segments with rings at the edges. height 58 cm.
dating: late 18th Century provenance: India, Convex-edged, iron axe, curved and strongly evident in the lower part fluke. Surface richly carved with cartouches containing figures on a horseback and animals, surrounded by floral drawings. All this preserves a part of antique gilding. Slightly convex butt enriched with inscriptions in Arabic characters, engraved and gilded. Iron cap at the peak with a large, lobed border, extended towards the axe's edge. Simple, cylindrical, iron haft with a cap in the lower part. height 67 cm.
dating: circa 1800 provenance: North India, Crescent-shaped axe, back near to the carved center, base and quillon block finely decorated with floral motifs in gold, cylindrical beak with a roundish tip decorated with foliage in gold. Cylindrical, wooden haft, slightly increasing towards the handle. Openwork for a lace. length 65.2 cm.

A RARE GERMAN ETCHED DOUBLE HALBERD FOR THE GUARD OF JOHANN SIGISMUND, MARGRAF OF BRANDENBURG, DATED 1609 with long tapering terminal blade of flattened-diamond section, asymmetrical double axe-head of 'bat-wing' form, pierced with heart-shaped apertures and circles, etched on each face with a warrior profile, a mounted figure holding a falcon, the crowned coat-of arms enclosed by an inscription on the terminal blade, a warriors heads beneath, and scrolling leafy tendrils on the head, one face struck with a mark, on a wooden haft 66.0 cm; 26 in head The inscription reads 'VON GOTTES GNADEN JOHANS SIGISMUNDT MARGGRAF ZU BRANDENBURG UND CHURFURST IN PREUSSEN HERZOG ZU GULICH CLEVE BERG STETIN POMMERN DER CASSUBEN UND WENDEN HERTZOGK 1609. Another halberd from this group, struck with the same mark, is preserved in the Deutsches Historisches Museum, Berlin. See Müller and Kölling 1990, no. 258 Johann Sigismund Elector of Brandenburg ((1572-1620, Elector from 1608) united his domain with that of Prussia through his marriage in 1594 to Anna, daughter of Albert Frederick of Prussia. He became duke of Prussia in 1618 and through his mother-in-law acquired rights over the Rhenish territories of Jülich, Cleves, and Berg following the Treaty of Xanten in 1614.
A RARE GERMAN ETCHED HALBERD FOR THE GUARD OF THE ABBEY OF WERDEN AND HELMSTÄDT IN THE DIOCESE OF COLOGNE, DATED 1592 with tapering terminal spike swelling towards the base, of hollow-diamond section and formed with a pair of basal lugs, recurved axe-blade pierced with a rosette formation of holes, formed with a central spike, down-curved rear fluke pierced en suite and with an additional lug top and bottom, etched over the greater part of its surface with strapwork frames and scrolling leafy tendrils on a stippled ground, with the arms of the Abbey, issuant figures playing trumpets, the figure of Justice a further angelic figure and the pious inscription 'Tale a Te' and 'o male a me', and the rear fluke dated on each face, tapering conical socket, a pair of long straps, on a wooden haft 59.0 cm; 23 ¾ in head
