GASQUOINE & DYSON A CASED 14-BORE PINFIRE DOUBLE-BARRELLED ROTARY UNDERLEVER SPORTING GUN, serial no. 1551, circa 1860, 29 1/2in. rebrowned twist sighted barrels signed `GASQUOINE & DYSON. MARKET PLACE. MANCHESTER. NO. 1551` (signature refreshed) on the rib, tang and back-action locks each engraved in low relief with scrollwork, that on the latter inhabited by dogs and game birds and signed `GASQUOINE & DYSON` on a ribbon, action engraved with scrollwork and a scene involving partridge on one side and pheasants on the other, the flat of the action stamped `HENRY JONES INVENTOR`, 14 1/2in. figured stock with chequered grip and fore-end (chequered refreshed), mounts engraved en suite, London proof marks, in two-tier leather Bussey patent case lined in green baize (handle detached at one end), the tray with hinged green-painted metal lid over the cartridge compartments marked `BUSSEY PATENTEE. PECKHAM LONDON`, with roll-turnover tool and pinfire sizer.
MAUSER (CODE 42) A 9mm (PARA) `MODEL 1908` SELF-LOADING "LUGER" SERVICE PISTOL, serial no. 3201, dated `1939`, 4in. sighted barrel (proved in 2009), dated receiver, bolt marked `42`, chequered wooden grips, matching numbers throughout including two matching numbers alloy-based magazines, and nearly all its original blacked finish throughout, in brown leather flap holster made by Carl Busse Mainz, dated `1939`, with stripping-tool, Waffenamt marks throughout.
DWM A 9mm `MODEL 1908` SELF-LOADING "LUGER" SERVICE PISTOL, serial no. 3571, dated `1915`, 4in. blued barrel (proved in 2009), blued dated receiver, blued frame, chequered wooden grips, matching numbers throughout with the exception of the wood-based magazine, and some original blued finish throughout (some holster rub, in brown leather flap holster by N. Burghard, Pasing with stripping-tool and spare wood-based magazine.

The finely engineered nickel finish steel staking tool stamped Germany to underside, in original box with an extensive selection of stakes, the box 18cm wide; with another staking tool and two various boxed sets of stakes; and four near identical Swiss steel watchmaker’s turns including a boxed example stamped FAVOURITE with 17cm bed adjustable poppets and a small selection of accessories, (one turn incomplete, another lacking toolrest), (8).

Maudslay Portable Steam Engine 1828 pen and watercolour, 600 x 910mm., 23&no.189; x 35_in., signed TP and dated 1828 at bottom right, scale at foot, borders painted black and with gilt rules, backed with linen, a little dusty, 1828. ***Provenance: By descent in the Maudslay family to the present owner. The firm of Maudslay, Sons and Field was founded in 1810 by Henry Maudslay (1771-1831), father of the machine tool industry and one of the greatest, though least-known, engineers of the Industrial Revolution. James Nasmyth, who when a young man worked with Maudslay, wrote of his slide rest lathe, "its influence in improving and extending the use of machinery has been as great as that produced by the improvement of the steam engine in respect to perfecting manufactures and extending commerce". He was succeeded by his son Joseph Maudslay (1801-1861) who, along with Joshua Field, developed the firm`s increased specialisation in marine engines..
