FERRARIO, Pietro; Giovanni Giacomo DE' ROSSI. Palazzi di Roma. [1696-1702], [WITH] Insignium Romae templorum prospectus exteriores interioresque a celebrioribus architectis inventi, 1684, 72 engraved plates (including title) [BOUND WITH] isegni di vari altari e cappelle nelle chiese di Roma con le loro facciate fianchi piante e misure de piu celebri architetti. [c.1713], engraved title by Pietro Antonio de Pitri after Ciro Ferri and 49 engraved plates showing plans, sections and elevations. Rome, de' Rossi, 1696-1702; 1684; n.d. circa 1713. 2 vol. bound together. Large folio (c. 49.5 x 36 cm). 18th-century Roman mottled brown calf richly tooled in gold to a rococo design with curling leaf tools, fan-shaped tools, flowers, palmettes and fleurons, spines gilt in compartments with a large rose tool; German library label in each volume on front paste-down, a little light dampstaining, going into the top of image of vol. 2, just into the blank upper margin of vol. 1. Superb examples of the art of the bookbinder. These volumes have bindings almost identical to those found on similar de' Rossi plate books, indicating that they were most likely made for the publisher; for example, see the Franklin Kissner Collection of Books on Rome, Christie's, 3 October 1990, lot 447.De' Rossi was one of the leading publishers of architectural works on Rome in the late XVII century. As well as buying up existing copperplates from other publishers and the heirs of artists, he also commissioned new engravings by artists such as Castiglione, Bartoli, and Aquila. De' Rossi not only documents the classical architecture of Rome from the renaissance onwards, but also groups them by building type. The lack of text puts the images in pride of place and the choice of images constitutes the sole editorial contribution of the author and publisher.

A 1998 Rover Mini 1275 Paul Smith limited edition, registration number S67 UBL, chassis number SAXXNWAZEWD162019, engine number 12A2LL88371205, blue. Originally unveiled at the prestigious Tokyo Motor Show in 1997, the Paul Smith limited edition was part of the Great Mini Collection which also featured David Bowie's chromed Mini and Kate Moss's Webb version. The Paul Smith Mini has a world wide production run of 1800 with only 300 available on the British market featuring the distinctive blue coachwork which was by repute modelled on the colour of Paul's shirt which he wore at the meeting to discuss the design with Rover. The rest of the production run features less striking Old English white or Anthracite black paintwork. Other distinctive features of the Paul Smith edition are the citrus green rocker cover, HT leads, and inside of the glove box painted green, petrol tank and boot boards. Further enhancements include the 24ct gold plated bonnet badge, black leather upholstery, special boot badge, front fog lamps and a denim tool roll. This well presented example has been restored by the previous owner which started in 2006 with the bodywork being rebuilt and resprayed at a cost of nearly £6,000, the wheels were refurbished, new chrome work and a new clutch was fitted. The black leather remains original and is in good condition. Since completion the Mini has attended shows and rallies and has covered a low mileage in the current ownership. Still presenting well this rare limited edition Mini will be offered for auction with a history file containing Paul Smith advertising memorabilia including a rare un-opened camera, gift bags, sales brochures, receipts and previous MOTs. V5C, MOT to June 2019 See illustrations
1953 Triumph Mayflower, 1247 cc. Registration STN 336. Chassis number TT 32864 DL. Body number 5386 59. Engine number TT 33919. The Mayflower was a four-seater family car powered by a 1247 cc side-valve engine through a three-speed, column-change gearbox. It had 'Razor Edge' styling, like its big brother the Renown, mimicking the style of the Rolls Royce of the period (hence its nicknames: the "poor man's Rolls Royce", or the "baby Rolls Royce"). It is thought that Sir John Black styled the car to appeal to the American market, with the name 'Mayflower' being chosen for this reason. Even the bonnet catch was designed with an integral emblem of the ship of the same name; a reference to the 'Pilgrim Fathers'. The engine is a modified version of that fitted to the Standard Ten and boasted an aluminium cylinder head. With the single Solex carburettor, it created 38 bhp. The gearbox came from the Standard Vanguard, having synchromesh on all forward gears. The body was designed at 'Mulliners of Birmingham', and the body shells were built by 'Fisher and Ludlow' at Castle Bromwich, Birmingham. It was the first car to be manufactured - by either Standard or Triumph - with 'unitary construction' (i.e. consisting of an integral chassis and body, rather than a body bolted onto a separate chassis). Around 34,000 were made in the four-year production run, with around 16,400 being sold in the UK; the rest being sold mostly to commonwealth countries with only 510 going to its intended American market. This example was first registered on the 11th June 1953 to a lady school teacher in the Preston area, she retained her, laying her up in 1971 with a mileage of 25,809. In 1973 John Hanks of Benton Car Sales, Newcastle upon Tyne bought her. In 1973 he removed the engine for a rebore, new pistons and a crankshaft reground; the mileage was 25,900. It was rarely used and again stored until 1983 when it went for an MOT at 26,445 miles In 2002 an attempt to sell it to a gentleman in Hamburg resulted in another MOT at 26,528 miles; this fell through and my vendor bought her in September 2004. He has not used her, the mileage today is 26,567, although he has carried out some minor recommissioning including the radiator was removed and flushed, replaced heater and radiator hoses, lubed and greased nipples, wax oiled, fitted with new hand brake cable and master cylinder but neither are connected. Sold with the V5C, 1985 and 2002 MOT's, tax discs from 1972, 1974 and 1977, assorted paperwork, handbook, parts books/manuals and the following, jack, tool kit, starting handle, spare wheel and a new, unfitted exhaust.
