Diana First Model Tinplate Air Pistol. An excellent condition and fully working German Diana First Model Tinplate Air Pistol by Mayer & Grammelspacher, Rastatt, Germany in about 1930. It has a tip down barrel and air chamber in the butt. The action is cocked with the tool which is included. Pressed steel and in .177 (4.5mm). Nicely stamped, with the Huntress trademark.

The rectangular section brass rod incorporating engraved scale of increasing unit sizes annotated 0-41 and labelled DEPTH with upper margin signed DE GRAVE & Co. LONDON, the opposing side similarly inscribed with scale of increasing unit sizes annotated 0-75 and labelled DIAMETER with upper margin engraved COUNTY OF KENT, the upper edge of the bar inscribed with the instructions Measure the Diameter with the scale marked ÒDiameterÓ and take the reading. Measure the depth with the scale marked ÒDepthÓ and take the reading. The De Grave Family were well known as scientific instrument makers specialising in weights and measures throughout the 19th century. The first member to set up business was Charles De Grave who is recorded in Clifton, Gloria Directory of British Scientific Instrument Makers 1550-1851 as working in St. MartinÕs le Grand, London from 1780. The firm was absorbed by W. and T. Avery and Co. Ltd in the early 20th century. The current lot is a relatively simple but useful tool designed to assist in the verification of Imperial unit measures by those employed in the enforcement of legislation with regards to Weights and Measures.
