Similar in style to the Scottish binding in Maggs Catalogue 1212, no. 122, and with identical pendant tool. (4)

Etrennes Mignonnes Pour l`An de Grace de Notre Seigneur, 1750, Liege, Belgium, Everard Kints, 1750, a few blank leaves with contemp. ms., a.e.g., gilt Dutch floral pastedowns, contemp. gilt thread embroidered pink silk, head of spine with one petal working loose, covers with inset painted panel within padded satin stitch border, upper cover depicting a landscape with putto and a fox, titled below in ms. `Le Cour a l`Aventure`, lower cover depicting a landscape with a deer, titled below in ms. `Heureux qui Peut en Faire Autant`, 96 x 56mm (3.75 x 2.25 ins), contained in contemp. crimson morocco bookform pull-off case, spine divided by wavy line roll between double lines, compartments with trumpeting angel, sides lavishly gilt tooled with border of crown roll, double fillet border, bead and flower roll, and single fillet, enclosing a large central lyre tool, and volute cornerpieces, 106 x 65mm (4.25 x 2.5 ins) A pretty embroidered binding surprisingly well-preserved. A collection of Ephemera pertaining to Major Arthur Maitland Emmett MBE, to include a large quantity of photographs and correspondence, war time and later, St. Edwards school pictures 6th Bn. Oxf & Bucks Regimental pictures, entrenching tool, and several copies of The Arkan Campaign of the 25th Indian Division March 1944 - March 1945, for which the writing of Maitland was awarded his MBE. Major Arthur Maitland Emmett was one of Britain`s foremost entomologists and served with the Oxf & Bucks Light Infantry in India and Burma.
