AN 'EMMERSON'S TIFFIN ROOMS' SINGAPORE PART DINNER SERVICE Manufactured by Churchill, England, with blue borders and 'Emmerson Tiffin Rooms' logo, comprising: 6 dinner plates; 6 soup plates; 10 small oval dishes; 4 oval dishes; 2 large oval dishes; 2 small oval serving bowls; 1 large oval serving bowl; 2 cruet sets; a teapot; 6 mugs; 10 demitasse cups and saucers; and 6 small circular dishes Emmersons Tiffin Rooms operated in Flint St, beside Cavanagh Bridge between c.1866 and 1886. The owner, Charles Emmerson, an American born veterinarian and entrepreneur, was also the proprietor of The Clarendon Hotel, at 7-8 Beach Road, which after his death was purchased by the Sarkie brothers and formed part of what is now Raffles Hotel. During a large renovation of Raffles Hotel fragments of the original Emmerson Tiffin Rooms crockery were found which inspired the group to open a new Emmersons Tiffin Rooms in Neil Rd in 1990, with reproductions of the original china produced. The present service almost certainly hailing from the later Neil Rd Tiffin Rooms. Transfer printed RD number to base with embossed RD number to cream jug. Note included from vendor, 'Given by Lord Stanley of Alderley Park to occupants of his cottages so that he had something decent to drink out of when hunting' (14) In good condition, no damage or restoration or wear to gold leaf.
