A Paris porcelain part tea or coffee service 1st half 19th century, decorated with wide bands of continuous gilt oak leaf and acorn garlands above vertical gilt bands, the spouts formed as mythical beasts. Comprising: a coffee pot and cover, a hot water jug and cover, a sugar pot and cover, a milk jug, a large bowl, eleven cups and eleven saucers. (30) Provenance: Jean-Pierre Pescatore (1793-1855) and thence by descent. By repute, a gift from Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III. Jean-Pierre Pescatore was a Luxembourgish-French businessman, philanthropist and art collector, who settled in Paris in the 1840s. Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie visited his fine collection of orchids at least twice. His art collection is housed in the Villa Vauban in Luxembourg City.
