Art Nouveau silver plated cube teaset, comprising two teapots, milk jug, sugar bowl and hot water jug with engraved floral swag decoration, mark to the base the cube trademark, "Cube Teapots ltd, Leicester, sole manufacturers in metal T W & S", teapots 14cm high, together with two matching ceramic cups and saucers.. Provenance: By descent from Douglas Shepherd (1922-1989), a designer and architect working on public houses for the brewery firm Ind Coope. He was heavily influenced by and was a serious collector of Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau, including leading designers and artists such as Charles Ashlee and Jessie M King. He assembled a large collection from the 1950s to 1970s. His book collection was subsequently sold through Sotherby’s and in 2013 his magnificent silver collection by Archibald Knox and others was sold through these rooms.
Set of six Aynsley blue coffee cans in pierced silver cup mounts (Sheffield 1917) and six matching saucers, in fitted cased retailed by Harrods, LondonOne of the saucers has some crazing. The cups are a bit dirty from the silver mounts and there is a little bit of enamel wear. Otherwise in good condition.
