A VIENNA PART TEA SERVICE WITH BLUE RIM AND GILT HIGHLIGHTS AMONGST FLOWERS, ORIGINALLY FOR TWELVE PERSONS (10 CUPS, 11 SAUCERS, 12 SIDE PLATES, 2 PLATES, SUGAR BOWL AND MILK JUG - AS FOUND), TOGETHER WITH AN ART NOUVEAU STYLE COMPOSITION FIGURAL MIRROR STAND (LACKS CIRCULAR FRAMELESS MIRROR), A LADY BALLOON VENDOR AND TWO OTHER FIGURES
The case measures 21" x 11" x 7" closed, and is covered in Dark Blue Rexine, in reasonable but used condition. It is initialled 'B.W'. The catches work as they should but the key is missing. The knives, china butter pot, glasses and kettle are all marked 'Coracle' The blue Bakelite container, cups, saucers and plates are marked 'Bandalasta' - a product introduced in the 1920s. The glass bottle has no makers mark but is perfect. The glass condiment bottles are also in good condition (base of pepper pot has tiny chips) but the salt stored in one has discoloured the glass and corroded the nickel a little. The spoons and forks are all marked 'Nickel Silver Sheffield' The burner and fuel bottle have no maker's mark, and are in good condition. The wicker covered framework is offered in good condition. Purchased by the vendor as an accessory for his Phantom I, but never used.
[DOWDING HUGH]: (1882-1970) British Air Chief Marshal, Commander of RAF Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain. An original typescript entitled Dowding - Notes on His Life prepared by historian Robert Wright (1906-1992) while in the process of researching his book Dowding and the Battle of Britain (1969). The typescript contains over 200 4to pages, the result of Dowding's own recollections, covering his early life and family background, experiences with the Royal Flying Corps, recollections of various individuals including Hugh Trenchard, Robert Watson Watt, Winston Churchill etc., as well as his post-War career, belief in Spiritualism and Flying saucers etc. VG
