A SET OF FOUR CHINESE ENAMELLED PORCELAIN RECTANGULAR PLAQUES LATE QING DYNASTY Painted with figures reading, fishing, carrying sticks and leading an ox, each set in a landscape, with calligraphy above, dated winter of the guisi year corresponding to 1893, contained within hinged wood frames to form a folding panel, the plaques approx 20cm x 13cm, 26cm x 77.5cm overall.

A CHINESE PALE CELADON JADE 'ZI GANG' RECTANGULAR PENDANT QING DYNASTY The plaque carved in low relief to one side with a gentleman riding a horse gazing back at another figure under a pine tree, the reverse with calligraphy and a signature reading Zi Gang, with archaistic dragons and clouds above, with a small circular hole for suspension, 6.4cm.
FOUR CHINESE JADE ARCHER'S RINGS AND A BOWENITE SNUFF BOTTLE LATE QING DYNASTY One archer's ring carved in white jade, another in pale celadon, the smallest worked in yellow jade, the fourth in celadon jade, each with a plain cylindrical body, the snuff bottle incised with lines of calligraphy, the base with a ten character mark for the collection of the hall Xing You Heng Tang, 8.1cm max. (5) Provenance: from the collection of Mary Colinet (née Skiotis), and thence by descent. Mary Colinet was born in Beijing on 20th August 1928. She married her husband Paul Colinet in Tianjin in September 1947 and later left Tianjin for France in 1953. Mary collected Chinese art and antiques, particularly during the period between 1964 and 1975 when she lived in Hong Kong. Mary spoke Greek as her first language and was also proficient in Mandarin, English and French.

A NEAR PAIR OF CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE YEN YEN VASES 19TH CENTURY Each painted with a continuous scene of scholar-officials engaged in various activities in a rocky wooded landscape, the gentlemen admire scrolls, play weiqi, drink tea and converse in the setting, with mountainous riverscapes and lines of calligraphy to the tall flaring necks, each with a four character mark reading nei fu dai zao to the base, 45.4cm and 44.7cm. (2) Provenance: from the collection of Lady Kate Davson, née Kate Foster (1938-2020). Kate Davson was a prominent dealer in European ceramics. The daughter of Ludovic Foster and Pamela Wilberforce, Kate was brought up near Pulborough in Sussex and educated at Downe House School near Newbury. Kate joined Sotheby's Works of Art Department in 1959. She travelled widely for Sotheby's and set up their Munich office. In 1973, she established the firm of Kate Foster Ltd, with premises in Ryder Street, St. James's. She also founded the French Porcelain Society in 1984. Kate married Christopher Davson (1927-2004) in 1975 and later became Lady Davson in 1998, although she still liked to be known as Kate. Main volume, cloth board covers with some scuffing and staining, first leaf loose from the card, images otherwise appear basically good, although with some slight bending to the edges. Second volume, some scratching and marking to the paper medallion of the cover, booklet with some foxing and marking, interior images with some rippling and bending conducive to age and use. A 19TH CENTURY INDIAN KUTCH SHAMSHIR OR SWORD, 75cm sharply curved blade with watered decoration, further decorated with a small panel of calligraphy in silver and gold, characteristic copper gilt hilt profusely chiselled with scrolling foliage and flowerheads, dramatically highlighted with green and red stones, contained in its silvered and gilt washed scabbard decorated with scrolling foliage and flowerheads on a stippled ground. Provenance: Loosely-inserted is aone-page autograph letter from Christopher Sandford, signed, on paper headed“Golden Cockerel Press”, and dated 18 July 1951, stating, “Dear LadyWorthington, I hope that (as the God-mother of the pleasant association which Ihave had with your husband and the Manchester Regiment) you will acceptenclosed book – which I send with the Golden Cockerel’s homage and good wishes,Yrs sincerely, Christopher Sandford.” Irene Bass Sutton Wellington (1904-84)was a leading British exponent of the art of calligraphy. Having studied at theRoyal College of Art, she undertook various commissions for the Central Schoolof Arts and Crafts between 1944 and 1959, and was also commissioned by theLondon County Council to provide the calligraphy for the Accession andCoronation addresses which were presented to Queen Elizabeth in 1952 and 1953respectively. Christopher Sandford (1902-83) was a book designer, proprietor ofThe Golden Cockerel Press and a founding director of The Folio Society.
