HANS JOACHIM BURGERT (German). Self portrait with text. Oil on board. Unsigned. 79 x 41cm. Note: This self portrait is sold with an archival folder relating to this artist, comprising two black & white photographs of Hans Burgert as a young man in his studio; a black & white photograph of a diptych work; some printed examples of his calligraphy & other art works; a typed sheet of poetry under his pseudonym 'Matthias Born' & a full colour book of the artist's paintings from 1979 - 2006 (German edition). Provenance: The lithograph (Lot 376) & this self portrait & archival items came from the estate of an English woman with whom the artist had a relationship in the 1950s/60s. The lady was a linguist and professional translator of classical choral works, who possibly worked with Burgert at that time.

A Chinese early 20th century bowl and cover, elegantly enamelled with vignettes of a female in an interior with a willow branch to the lid and another by a banana tree to the body, calligraphy and underglaze blue to base, Imperial Kiln for Inner Palace, 10.5cm and another small eggshell cup and cover decorated with children, umbrellas and prunus branches, 10cm (2) CONDITION REPORT: Large bowl and cover - gilding loss to rim, glaze blister/flaw to rim, fritting to interior, multiple chips to rim of cover. Smaller bowl and cover - some bubbling to the blue paint, some staining to interior of bowl, edge nibbles.
