(2) Wang Guowei (1877-1927), originally from Zhejiang province, was a famous scholar and one of the pioneers of introducing Western philosophy and art history to China during the Republic Period.

TWO CHINESE INTERIOR-PAINTED GLASS SNUFF BOTTLES 20TH CENTURY One painted with the Tower of Buddhist Incense, Foxiangge, in the Summer Palace, Yiheyuan, the reverse with calligraphy describing the location, signed by Chen Dongshun and dated the bingwu year corresponding to 1966, the other decorated with a pavilion in a bamboo grove, with a fan to the reverse, dated the xinhai year for 1971 and signed Guangzhong, 5.4cm and 6.4cm. A JAPANESE SHIBAYAMA STYLE IVORY BOX AND COVER MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY The square box with rounded corners, the lid realistically carved in low relief with Kikujido, the small child holding a firefly, a woven basket and sprays of flowers behind him, the sides delicately decorated in gold and silver hiramaki-e lacquer with many chrysanthemum flowers, the inside with seven lines of calligraphy, the foot with a thin band of key fret and the base signed Baisensai Munehide with kao, 5.5cm. (2) The story of Kikujido, "the Chrysanthemum Boy", appears in the Noh play Makurajido. The boy remains youthful 700 years after writing the lines of the Lotus Sutra gifted to him by the Emperor on chrysanthemum leaves, when dew drops had become an elixir for Immortality.
ANONYMOUS (QING DYNASTY) REVERSE CALLIGRAPHY Two Chinese panels of calligraphy, both ink on paper, one reverse calligraphy inscribed and dated the jiaxu year, with three illegible seals, the other calligraphy of a Tang dynasty poem, signed with three artist's seals, 33cm x 20cm. A Chinese export porcelain European subject saucer dish, late 18th century, painted with a courting couple and cupid beside a river, within a diaper border with lobed reserves with landscapes, 6 1/8in. (15.5cm.) diameter, rim chip; together with a Chinese European decorated plate, badly damaged; a miniature famille rose teapot, pear form, painted with warriors and calligraphy, 4in. (10cm.) high, spout chipped and repaired; and a miniature Canton famille rose teapot. (4) * Condition: - European subject dish: Small rim chip and two glaze frits to rim. Decoration VG. Gilt wear to rim. Two rust marks to back of dish from old metal plate hanger. - Plate: Large piece missing from rim and has been broken in half - has stapled repair. Some wear to decoration. - Pear teapot: Spout has been off and glued - hairline crack beneath spout and another small hairline to rim. Large chip to tip of spout. - Canton teapot: Small rim chip. Gilt wear.

A Khorasan bronze mortar. Possibly Iran. Octagonal form with double ring handles. Teardrop faces, calligraphy, and arabesque vines with animal decoration around rim. Banded scrollwork along top and bottom around body with figural scenes and molded teardrop facets. Ring handles connected to body with bull heads. 5 3/4" x 8 1/2" x 7 7/8". Small table cabinet with scratches and cracks to the lacquer and some elements lacking. Snuff box with chips and scratches. Circular covered box with substantial cracking and chips throughout. Glove box scratched and scuffed. Glove box two - scuffs and chips to the edges. Calligrapher's tray in generally good order. Sericology extbook has rust to the three holding staples on the spine. Another textbook with some slight moisture damage to edges. Remaining articles of calligraphy creased and ruffled at the edges but no apparent tears.
