QUIET LIVING IN A MOUNTAIN SURROUNDED BY CLOUDS', BY LU YANSHAO (1909-1993), DATED 1981 Ink and watercolors on paper. A virtuoso and expressive landscape study with two small huts in a forest of densely clustered pine trees, with mountains towering into dark clouds in the background.Inscriptions: Signed Lu Yanshao and inscribed upper left, dated August 1981.Provenance: Zhou Shengli (1951-2018). Thence by descent within the same family to the present owner. Zhou Shengli was born in Shanghai and studied painting under Lu Yanshao (1909-1993). In the 1990s, he established the 'Baosteel Painting and Calligraphy Society' with him and his colleagues participating in many calligraphy and painting competitions and winning over twenty of the highest prizes and awards.
