A SET OF NINE CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE PORCELAIN GRADUATING CUPS, LATE QING DYNASTY. Each decorated to the exterior with figures and calligraphy expect the smallest cup which has a single seated figure to the interior. Each with gilt rim. Probably Tongzhi period (1861-75). 3.6cm - 9.6cm diam. (9) The largest cup with small chip leading into a 5cm vertical hairline, with a further shallow chip to rim and one other 5cm hairline. The rest of the cups are in good overall condition.

This is a valuable book on morphology, rhetoric, and the rules of poetry. it is written by hand in Moroccan calligraphy in black and red ink during the 18th century. It is in good condition, 20 pages and is 24 by 8 cm.

This is a valuable book on the origins of Hajj, its rules, conditions and rituals, the principles of disposition upon death and the rules of burial.It is handwritten in Moroccan calligraphy in black and red ink in the year 1196 AH (1778 AD)The original owner of the book was Sheikh Muhammad Al-Namimy.The book contains 210 pages, it is in average condition and measures 22 by 18 cm. It still has its original leather cover.

This calligraphy on cobalt blue by Izette Efendi has the text of surah al-Qalam. It is written in Thuluth calligraphy and dated 1111 AH (1690 AD).The calligraphy has some repairs and is 42 by 28 cm.

Lot 7

This helmet is exactly like the ceremonial helmet of Sultan Fatih Mehmet worn during his conquest of Istanbul. The original is exhibited at the Military Museum of Harbiye.On the helmet there are the text of the Surah of the Conquest (Al-Fatih)(سورة ألفتح) and the names of the four Caliphs. The calligraphy is by İsmail Hakkı Altunbezer, one of the late Ottoman calligraphers.The art of illumination was used in the decorations, and the interior is covered with felt. It is adorned with stones of turquoise and red and green agate. It is designed and certified by a private art gallery.A 22 micron coating has been applied on the golden helmet and it has been patented by the Turkish patent institute. The helmet comes with certificate from this institute.The helmet is in very good condition. Although on the left side of the helmet, there is a 3,5 cm long disfigurement due to sticking tape.

An Ottoman era, ornate calligraphy with marbling and hand illuminations. It is dated 1286 HD (1870 AD) and written by Abdul Salam Efendi. He was a Damascus student, and his teacher was Mehmet Sakir Efendi.The text is an Arabic Hadith about the virtue of Zikrullah: He who cuts flavor increases the commemoration of death. Because the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, Because If you understand it in narrowness, Allah will widen it for you and make you satisfied with it.

This handwritten 19th century document by İhsan Efendi (1873 - 1945), shows the same text (letters) in three types of calligraphy Thuluth, Nask and Meshk.It is in very good condition and the dimensions without frame are 49 x 70 cm.

This lot was provided by the Montauban family, whose descendants were also fascinated by collecting Chinese art, influenced by the collection of the Comte de Montauban. Le general Cousin-Montauban, Comte De Palikao (1796-1878). Charles Cousin-Montauban, Comte de Palikao was born in Paris on June 24, 1796, to Jean-Antoine Cousin-Montauban and Appoline de Launay. He joined the Gardes du Corps de Monsieur regiment in July 1814 and was appointed as a second lieutenant in the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment in December 1815. He served as a lieutenant in the Royal Guard's 1st Cavalry Grenadier Corps from 1824 to 1826. In September 1851, he was appointed a general by Prince President Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte and tasked with operations in Oran. On December 28, 1855, he was appointed as a brigadier general and commanded multiple districts: Limoges, Tours, and Rouen. In 1859, French-Chinese diplomatic relations deteriorated, leading to the dispatch of a French expeditionary force to China. On November 13, 1859, Cousin-Montauban was appointed as the overall commander of the expedition's land and sea forces. It consisted of 8,000 troops divided into two brigades led by Generals Jannin and Collineau. On August 14, the allied forces led by Cousin-Montauban landed in Baitang and captured the Dagukou Fortress on August 26. On September 21, they defeated 20,000 Mongolian cavalry led by Sengge Rinchen in the Battle of Palikao, achieving victory in the expedition and acquiring significant wealth and important Chinese collectibles. Cousin-Montauban returned to France in 1861 and brought back a considerable amount of wealth acquired during the war to his family's collection. Due to his success in the expedition, he was granted the title of Comte de Palikao by Emperor Napoleon III in 1862. He then created his own medal seal and stamped it onto his collected treasures, which were added to his family's collection. Cousin-Montauban died at his home on 75 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore in Paris on January 8, 1878. Medals and honors received by Montauban: On April 9, 1870, he was appointed by Emile Ollivier, Prime Minister of France as Minister of War and took over the government on August 9 at the request of the Empress. In 1834, he was awarded the Legion of Honor Knight Medal, in 1844 the Officer Medal, in 1848 the Colonel Medal, and on December 28, 1859, he was granted the Officer Medal, and on November 28, 1861, he was promoted to the Grand Cross. Montauban was awarded the Military Medal on November 26, 1861. He received the Crimean Medal, the Order of Saint-Gregoire-le-Grand, the Order of the Bath, and the Swedish Sword from Her Majesty Queen of England.
