Basilius Besler Das erste Florilegium Hortus Eystettensis, sive diligens et accurata omnium plantarum, florum, stirpium, ex variis orbis terrae partibus .. praesentatio. 4 Teile in 3 Bänden. Eichstätt und Nürnberg 1713 (d. i. um 1750). - Eines der schönsten Blumenbücher überhaupt - Beeindruckend großformatiger und umfangreicher Pflanzenkatalog des fürstbischöflichen Barockgartens in Eichstätt - Eines der Hauptwerke der botanischen Buchillustration - Vollständiges Exemplar auf unbeschnittenem Büttenpapier - Die schwarzweißen, großzügig gestalteten Kupfertafeln überwiegend in kräftigen Abdrucken 'The first great florilegium, splendid in its array of large drawings, magnificent as a record of the plants in a German garden in the beginning of the seventeenth century' (Allan Stevenson) Fünfte und letzte Ausgabe des botanischen Prachtwerkes, das 1613 erstmals erschien (zur Editionsgeschichte siehe ausführlich H.-O. Keunecke in Die Pflanzenwelt des Hortus Eystettensis, München u. a. 1998, S. 91ff.). LITERATUR: Nissen 158. - Pritzel 745. - Hunt (Allan Stevenson) 430. - Stafleu/Cowan 497. - Baier, Hortus Eystettensis (in: Aus d. Antiquariat 1970, S. A 273 ff.). Fifth and last edition of the impressive botanical catalogue, initiated for the centennial of the first edition, but published only around 1750. With engraved illustrated title (dated 1713) and 367 copperplates, depicting a selection of more than 1000 specimen of the regional and exotic flowers and plants cultivated in the garden of the Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt. Botany.- Mee (Margaret) Flowers of the Brazilian Forests, number 38 of 100 specially bound copies with an original watercolour by the author, signed by the author on colophon, original watercolour of a Tibouchina (c.330 x 240mm.), signed and numbered by Mee, tipped-in before title with tissue guard, 32 colour lithograph plates by the author (including frontispiece) with tissue guards, pictorial endpapers, original full vellum, gilt, spine a little sunned, t.e.g., original cloth slip case, slightly scuffed, folio, The Tyron Gallery, 1968.⁂ Mee was an English botanical artist and conservationist who spent more than thirty years exploring the Amazon, collecting, preserving and illustrating the flora which she encountered. In his Introduction to this work, Roberto Burle Marx - internationally renowned landscape architect and one of the first ecologists to call for the conservation of the Brazilian rainforests - recalls how Mee, on expeditions into the forest, possessed such keen instinct and observation that she would surprise the party by consistently finding the rarest species. Indeed, she discovered and recorded several species new to science, some of which are presented here for the first time. Foreword by Sir George Taylor, Director of the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew from 1956-1971. Produced under the patronage of HRH. The Duke of Edinburgh.
