A 19th century Botanical dessert service, each piece handpainted with a floral spray and with peach coloured ground and heightened with gilding (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Each piece in this service has a different handpainted pattern. The name of the floral specimen is written in puce on the back of each piece. Some of the plates have pattern numbers in gilt. Three of the 18 plates are undamaged. These three all have some rubbing to the gilding. Of the remaining 15 plates two have been broken and have riveted repairs, there are no losses however. The remaining 14 plates have no losses but all have hairline cracks across the bases, these vary in terms of visibility. None of the hairline cracks are open and they are all old. All of the plates have rubbing to the gilding in varying degrees but only one has a small under edge chip. Of the four oval dishes three have riveted repairs and one has major hairline cracks, there are however no losses but all have some rubbing to the gilding. Of the four shallow footed bowls, one has had professional restoration and spraying is evident allover the underside edge. The three other bowls all have hairline cracks of varying degrees. All have minor rubbings to the gilding. Of the four square plates one is in good order with no damage, two have visible hairline cracks across the centre panels and one has had old professional restoration which is now discoloured. There is spray to both top and bottom surfaces. The two small lidded comports both have problems. One is discoloured to the interior and has a riveted repair to one handle. The lid is intact but does have a 1.5 inch hairline crack. The other bowl has three hairline cracks across the top rim and the lid has a riveted repair across the whole of the top. The gilding is again rubbed in places. There is one small tureen stand which is in reasonable condition with no damage. The other stand is broken into 3 pieces. The large table centre has riveted repairs and numerous very visible hairline cracks. There are no losses. We have one further plate which is broken into two pieces and also has evidence of old restoration. As stated previously the gilding is slightly rubbed on all pieces however the patterns are generally strong.
