ATTRIBUTED TO PRISCILLA SUSAN FAULKNER "BURY" NEE FAULKNER (1799-1872) "Lilium Candidum, June, the Levant", botanical study, pen and ink, titled, together with "Lilium, Martagon, May, Caucasus", botanical study, pen and ink, titled and "Heleborus Niger Christmas Rose, December, Austria" (3) CONDITION REPORTS All three appear to have come out of a book or artist's pad as they are numbered in top right corner. The helibore has been out of its frame and, although stuck down at the top of the mount, the rest is loose, one side is roughly torn and the others are straight-cut, there is some discolouration all over and especially to the edges. There appears to be some water / damp damage to the top left quarter. A damp mark running through the picture and the mount,and there is a crease line to base of picture. The lily has some discolouration, some areas of foxing, especially to bottom left corner. There are thunderbugs beneath the glass and some dots to the surface of the painting, possibly dirt or insect marks. The Lily Martagon has foxing, various stains, discolouration, there are thunderbugs beneath the frame and other insects. All three have general wear. Frames are bit tatty and mounts are discoloured and stained. Please see images. These pictures have come from a local private vendor. 37 cm x 26 cm

(6) Alire Raffeneau Delile (23 January 1778 - 5 July 1850) was a French botanist who participated in Napoleon Bonaparte's Egypt Campaign. In 1798 more than a hundred and fifty engineers, astronomers, physicists, chemists, doctors, botanists, naturalists, and artists made the arduous journey to Egypt. They later presented their discoveries in the publication titled 'Description de l'Egypte', including these botanical illustrations. Delile carried on with his botanical studies in North America and then in France and was named director of the botanical garden in Montpellier in 1832.
