† A fine cased Belgian 6 shot 12mm open frame DA PF revolver, 10½" overall, octagonal barrel 6¼" stamped at the breech "Lefaucheux Bte, Acier Fondu", the frame numbered 49960 and with external halfcock spring on the right side, the barrel, cylinder, frame, grip strap and trigger guard profusely overlaid in gold with scrolls, tendrils and lines, the barrel also with "Bertonnet en Buenos Ayres" in panels, bag shaped butt with lanyard ring and plain ivory grips. GWO & C (some surface rust, a few pieces of gold overlay missing), in its original rosewood veneered case, the brass bound lid also with inlaid brass lines and escutcheon, the lid lining gold impressed "Betonnet, Calle San Martin 50, on Buenos Ayres", containing GS mounted ebony cleaning rod with ivory finial, pewter lined ebony oil bottle with ivory dipper finial, and replacement screwdriver. GC (lining faded, some small repairs to veneer). This set is illustrated on the cover of "El Revolver Lefaucheux su uso en la Argentina", Vol 2, by Adolfo Martinez, pub Buenos Ayres 2000. Plate 9

A good late 18th Century Austrian or German 20 bore flintlock sporting gun, 45" overall,octagonal barrel 30" with lightly etched simulated damascus pattern, 2 raised silver lines and pellets at the breech, and silver foresight, plain rounded lock with dumpy swan neck cock and unbridled frizzen, walnut fullstock with chequered wrist, carved panels along the ramrod groove and round the breech tang, and cheekpiece on the butt, plain steel mounts, the trigger guard and butt plate tang cut with a 6 pointed star, wooden scrolled grip to trigger guard, with sling swivel and button; horn tipped wooden ramrod. GWO & almost as new Condition, original burnished finish to metalwork. Possibly Ex Von Giech Sale c 1970. Plate 12

A French 16 bore silver mounted flintlock sporting gun, made for the Turkish market, c 1820, 61" overall, barrel 45½", the octagonal breech engraved and sparsely gold damascened; flat lock with curious shaped cock, raised pan, squared frizzen and roller on frizzen spring; walnut fullstock with chequered wrist, the butt and fore end inlaid with silver leaves, tendrils, studs and borders; silver mounts including deeply chiselled buttplate, trigger guard, side nail cups and throat pipe; plain silver barrel wedge plates and long fore end cap; original steel ramrod. GWO & C (rear curl of cock missing, trigger guard straps replaced, front of fore end loose) Plate 12

GWO & C (sling swivels and bayonet catch missing, stock bruised). Plate 12

A 10 bore Volunteer Brown Bess flintlock musket, 55" overall, barrel 39" with Tower private proofs, rounded lock with swan neck cock, engraved with crowned "GR" and maker`s name (illegible), walnut fullstock with mostly regulation brass mounts, but with large flat sideplate and oval escutcheon, the trigger guard finial of early type. GWO & basically GC (lock and barrel pitted and worn overall with dark patina, no ramrod or sling swivels, tumbler screw replaced). A basically untouched piece. Plate 12

Midland Railway brass Locomotive Cabside Classification Numbers 2 & 4. These were fitted to early MR locos by the integral, threaded studs. One of the studs on the number 4 has long gone. Very rare, we`ve only ever had one of these plates before.

Ex loco condition.

Pullman Company Silverplate Ice Bucket. A lovely item with carrying handle, engraved on side with large lettering `Pullman` and also with the full crest with `DD` (Dining Department) beneath. Manufactured by Joseph Westby & Co. so stamped beneath, it stands 5½" high and 4½" diameter at widest. In extremely good condition.

Somerset & Dorset and other Luggage Labels, a small collection together with a nice assortment of BR whole and half tickets. The S&D Labels are a small duplication of `Parcel From Bason Bridge` plus some later ERO 59013 (S&D 767) and Stock 724 and 824 via Bath. Also a wad of LMS Via Bath, a selection of LMS, Southern, LSWR and SR smaller labels and a wad of GWR `square` labels mostly different and from a variety of interesting stations. The tickets comprise of Platforms and wholes and halves Edmondson’s. Some closed stations so a good selection throughout. Finally, a few odds such as GWR Eggs, SR Live Stock etc. Must be viewed to appreciate.

Very good condition with a clean, 3" tear top centre that has had a piece of tape applied on the rear at some time.

Lot 84

London & South Western Railway heavy lead, Bridge Makers Plate bearing the inscription `L&SWR WIMBLEDON WORKS 1885`. Recovered from the footbridge on Honiton Station when the old bridge was replaced with a modern one. Measuring 18" x 8½" and somewhat distressed after many attempts by collectors to remove over the years! It certainly has a history within. A very rare plate, only the second one ever to come to market.

Carriage Prints, a pair, both in original, glazed frames, comprising `Ben Loyal, Sutherland` by W. Douglas McCleod from the LNER series and `Langdale Valley nr Ambleside` by Greene from the LMR series (D). Together with Carriage Prints, qty 5 `Travel In` series by Hamilton Ellis comprising: Burton & Ashby Light Railway; Furness Railway Ulverston; North London Railway for Broad Street; Blackpool & Manchester Train; Lancashire & Yorkshire Liverpool Express; West Lancashire Railway Train. The first one is loose, the rest are with the original glass. The original frames are loosely wrapped and accompany. Accompanying this lot is a pair of C/I Carriage Data plates and one other circular plate.

London & South Western Railway enamel Destination Indicator Plate GODALMING - HASLEMERE - PETERSFIELD - MIDHURST. Measures approximately 8" x 6½", black lettering on white ground and is in excellent condition.

A pair of LB&SCR brass cased signal repeaters, Distant No 1765 and Home No 1799, both mounted on a wooden display board and connected to a switched battery which shows they are in full working order. With them are various letters and a track diagram confirming that they were used at Sutton West Box which closed in 1955, 1765 was 4R the Up slow outer distant and 1799 was 23 the Down slow Starting. A nice pair with added bonus of a Location.

The Vulcan Boiler & General Insurance Company Ltd solid bronze Sign. Measures 20" x 21½" and is in excellent condition. Together with a solid brass sign `The National Boiler & General Insurance Co Ltd. This measures 20½" x 10" and is in excellent condition.

The Yorkshire Insurance Company, solid bronze sign with raised border. Measures 18" x 14" and is in excellent condition. Together with a solid bronze Insurance sign listing no less than four company names. These are: Royal Insurance Company Limited; The Liverpool & London & Globe Insurance Company Limited; The London & Lancashire Insurance Company Limited; Law Union & Rock Insurance Company Limited. Measures 15¼" x 24" and is in excellent condition throughout. Together with a similar but smaller flat sign with 4 separate companies listed, being: Northern Assurance Group; Northern Assurance Co Ltd; White Cross Insurance Co Ltd; London & Scottish Assurance Corpn. Ltd. Measures 17¾" x 9¾" in excellent condition.

Totem, BR(W) EXETER ST DAVIDS, H/F. Ex GWR station in the heart of the west of England, opened in 1844 by the Bristol & Exeter Railway. Excellent colour and shine, just normal edge chipping, certainly one of the best examples we have seen.

Lot 150

Nameplate SANSPAREIL, ex LNWR 4-6-0 Experiment Class No 1526 built Crewe in October 1907 under works number 4688. Given the LMS number 5492 in November 1926. Withdrawn November 1928. A quite wonderful, brass, straight plate measuring 55¾" in length and 4¾" at the widest. The left side is inscribed L&NWRCo. The right side is inscribed Crewe Works and the date Oct 1907 below the actual name. From the very cradle of steam locomotives, the name Sanspareil has adorned a number of locomotives over the years and as the French translation suggests, this particular example is `without equal.

Lot 157

GWR brass cased Drum Clock number 2458 stamped on case. Enamel dial with `G.W.R Kay & Co Paris` set within. The rear case number has been obliterated with solder as was often the case when parts were misplaced and consequently swapped around at Reading. The movement number is 3909. Minor chipping to the face at 11 and 7 o`clock but this barely detracts. Good working order.
