The rifle is sold with its original stock and the vendor confirms that only 17 rds have been fired since the replacement barrel was fitted in 1970.

A .222/410 "ROYAL" MODEL SIDELOCK EJECTOR GUN, NO. 17668 converted from .250, built for the King of Italy, 26-inch barrels with 3-inch chambers, the rifle barrel lined, short raised rib with folding leaf sight, raised fore sight, mounted with a Henstoldt Diasta 4x32 telescopic sight with claw mounts, the frame, locks and top lever with acanthus scoll engraving, the maker`s name signed within an arched banner, gold lined cocking indicators, set front trigger, extended top strap, 15 3/4-inch well figured stock with pistol grip, cheekpiece and rubber recoil pad, sling swivels, 6lb. 13oz., Austrian nitro proof. Holland & Holland confirm that the rifle was built in 1900 for the King of Italy and that it was originally supplied as a .250 hammerless ejector rifle. Umberto I, King of Italy. Born in 1844, he was king of Italy from 9 January 1878 until his death by assassination on 19 July 1900. He was deeply loathed in far Left circles, especially amongst anarchists, because of his Conservatism and support ot the Barva-Beccaris massacre in Milan in 1898. He was buried in the Pantheon in Rome, the last Savoy to be buried there. The rifle appears to have been built shortly before his death.

BOSS & CO. A COMPLETE SET OF GUNMAKERS CHAMBER PLUG GAUGES, covering the sizes 10, 12, 14, 16, 20, 28 and 32-bores respectively, each stamped BOSS, contained in their wooden box. This scarce set of gauges were used for many years for the manufacture of all Boss sporting guns and were then passed to John Wilkes where they were also used in gun manufacture.

The guns were built in 1991 and appear very little used.
J. PURDEY & SONS. A PAIR OF 12-BORE SELF-OPENING SIDELOCK EJECTOR GUNS, NOS. 17215/6. 30-inch replacement chopper-lump barrels with 2 1/2-inch chambers about 1/4 choke borings and 1/2 choke borings respectively, the frames, locks and numbered top levers with fine bouquet and scroll engraving, 15 1/2-inch well figured replacement stocks, cast on for the left shoulder, 6lb. 12oz., nitro proof, in their maker`s brassbound oak and leather case. The maker confirms that the guns were built in 1902 for Colonel Stephenson Clarke. The No. 1 gun was rebarrelled by Purdey in 1975 and the No. 2 was rebarrelled by Purdey outworker, Marcus Scrase in 1992. Colonel Stephenson Clarke was a well known naturalist and ornithologist. He presented his numerous collections to the British Museum, including nearly 10,,000 birds. His interests were extremely widespread and their were few areas of sport or natural history with which he had no acquaintance. His knowledge of plants and trees was profound and his collection of trees and shrubs at Borde Hill in Sussex has been famous since the 1930s.

A FINE PAIR OF 12-BORE "ROYAL" MODEL SIDELOCK EJECTOR GUNS, NOS. 16467/8. 28-inch replacement barrels by the maker, with 2 3/4-inch chambers about 1/4 and 1/2 choke borings, the frames, locks and gold numbered top levers with fine foliate scroll engraving, fences carved with shell motifs, the maker`s name signed within a cartouche, gold lined cocking indicators, 14 3/4-inch highly figured replacement stocks, 6lb. 8oz., nitro proof, in their brassbound oak and leather case with maker`s label. Holland & Holland confirm that the gun was built in 1895 and that they fitted the replacement barrels. The guns have recently been refurbished to a very high standard by a Holland & Holland outworker, including the fitting of new replacement stocks. The guns have been unused since the restoration work was completed.

Wakefield (late of Boss), with 2 1/2-inch chambers about 1/4 and 1/2 choke borings, file-cut rib, the frame, locks and gold numbered top lever with fine bouquet and scroll engraving, the maker`s name signed within a scrolling banner, gold lined cocking indicators, rolled edge trigger guard, 14 1/4-inch highly figured replacement stock, slightly cast for the left shoulder, 6lb. 11oz., nitro proof. The maker confirms that the gun was built as the No. 2 gun of a set of three in 1918. The replacement barrels were fitted in 1995 by the maker and has remained virtually unused since then and fitted the replacement stock in 1976.

The replacement barrels were fitted in 1980 and the replacement stock was fitted in 1970.
