A Tear Drop Shaped Mahogany Striking Tavern Clock, signed Dawes, Whitehaven, early 19th century, turned stepped wooden bezel surround, trunk door with a beaded outer border, 14-inch convex painted dial with Roman numerals and signed, seconds dial, movement with an attached falseplate stamped Walker & Hughes, anchor escapement and rack striking on a bell, 152cm high see illustration 17.06.20 Case is slightly faded in parts, case sides and hood with discoloured/staining marks, trunk door beading with chips, underside of the base with signs of later repairs with screws added and with cracks and chips, dial with crazing marks throughout, paint with small bubbling marks and staining marks, some numerals and the outer minute track is rubbed, movement needs cleaning, movement in going order, with two weights and a pendulum.
